OEM alarm needs updated siren in order to work? BS or not?

Hi guys -

Purchased on Ebay the OEM alarm from Hunterdon BMW for the e90 3 Series. Called up Pacific BMW in Glendale, CA to find out about installing it and the SA says as long as my alarm has the updated siren, it'll work and they can install.

Otherwise they will charge me another $179 for the updated siren and about $320 to install and initialize with the system.

Does this sound like bullshirt to you guys? Please let me know before I commit to this. Thanks.

That may explain the problem that I have with my 330 alarm. I bought the OEM alarm from Circle BMW and had it installed during the PDI. I took delivery yesterday, but the alarm doesn't work. The technician said that the programming station didn't recognize the siren part number and called out a different part number. ScreaminE90 said that it is related to a problem with the programming station software, but I haven't heard anything else since then. E90Fleet or ScreaminE90 may have an update or more accurate information, hopefully one of them will see this thread. I will be a little annoyed if I just payed to have a part installed that doesn't work and have to pay again to have an updated part installed, but if that's what it takes, then I guess I'll be payin.
Good luck with your alarm!

Just emailed Rob at Hunterdon BMW and he did say there's a difference in the sirens. Turns out I've got the old siren, which he said I could wait until BMW comes up with a fix to the coding or return the old one and he'd send me the new siren, which I opted for.

Old siren P/N is 694 83 92

Thanks for the info. I emailed Circle BMW to see if they knew any details, but they haven't responded yet. I have the car in the U.K. until just after New Year's, then I will be coming back to the U.S.. The dealer over here wants about $150 plus labor for a new siren, so I will probably wait for the new software. Thanks for the help and information!

I ordered it from PacificBMW, installed it but didn't activate it because I got the ultrasonic trigger, door trigger and clown nose blinking worked right out of the box. Things I don't get: hood pin trigger and chirp sound for arm/disarm (which I don't want)...so I'm kool with the unactivated alarm...

How do you test the Alarm to make sure it works--is that by using the panic button? If so, then I'm okay, but could not figure out how else to test other features.

Thanks

Progman V23, which fixes the programming station error is not out yet. I haven't heard of putting in an updated siren till now. to my understanding, there WAS no other siren part number to install, according to BMW... give me 10 minutes and I'll check BMW's bulletin on this matter.

any dealer trying to CHARGE you to put in an "updated siren" to make your JUST purchased alarm work needs to be reported to the Bureau of Automotive Repair, here in the states. That is NOT NOT NOT something you should be being charged for, if the part you just bought doesn't work because of a FACTORY DEFECT!

I'm not able to check bulletins at this time, I'll check from work in the morning, and provide an update.

///Matt,

Thanks for checking, I was starting to give up hope! I am military stationed in the U.K. and bought my car through Military Car Sales. I bought the alarm from Cirlce BMW and had the U.K. dealer install it during PDI. They called me when they ran into the problem, but since I didn't buy the alarm from them, my choices were to buy another siren or to wait for Progman 23. Thanks again for the help!

I saw a note from the dealership last week and they won't install alarm on E90 due to an error and date code affect is production car after Mar 06, you might want to check with local dealer and confirm.

I beleive march is when the CURRENT version of Progman , v22, came out. Progman (the programming software) is the problem here. v21.2 programmed alarms without problems. v22 won't, but v23 will.
