Friendly Reminder - RR Oil Catch Can

I was skeptical at first about the RR Oil Catch Can leakage issue. Only a few people had reported it, so I didn't bother going out of my way to check.

Anyhow, I needed to replace something under the hood and thought I'd do a quick visual check. No signs of anything. Oddly the indicator tube on the catch can had barely changed color. I felt the bottom of the can and what do you know, oil dripping out. I remove the can and just about every seal (aside from the hose connection points) was leaking oil down the engine bay.

I remember in the other thread they had leakage issues on the other connections. I went ahead and removed the cowl and checked all the other connection points -- very little oil visible, but had I not checked sooner the seals would have been lubricated enough to allow much more oil to flow out. I cleaned every connection of oil, bought all new seals, and clamped every possible area I could find.

Just another reminder for everyone out there who purchased this catch can - it leaks unless properly sealed, check it.

+1

Pretty much every threaded connection weeps oil.

Good news is that it is catching a significant amount of blowby oil residue.

theres also some suggested upgrades w/ respect to the clamps/connectors - is there a thread where this is detailed? What other upgrades would you recommend if I was to install one of these? TIA...

Mine had the same problem. I'm about to ditch this cheap Chinese looking made can for the McKinney.

+1 I have not even installed mine yet. I beefed up the hose kit with clamps and will probably throw the Riss can in the trash, and order a McKinney with 3/8" connectors.

Yes there is a very good thread, I think it was turbo_IS or one of the other guys who did the write up -- can't remember. There is another OCC that others have tried now with success. A quick search and you can find the thread.

The oil leaking was pretty close to my exhaust.

The lower part of my engine bay was covered in oil. Every bit of it leaked out, not one drop stayed in the can. The hoses leaked as well; so I wouldnt advise using riss's hoses either..we need to find another company to put together a solution for us; Riss racing is junk. And I havent seen them respond to ANY of the many posts concerning the garbage that they are selling; they just keep selling more of them to customers that dont know any better

Check underneath the can..I wondered why mine was not filling up and when I took it out and looked down into the engine compartment I realized it had all leaked out into the engine bay

I looked under my can the other day, and I see a very small amount of "discoloation" from where a couple of drops might have leaked out. I haven't had to empty my can yet, I only have about 9300 miles though. I did notice the sight guage is tinted with oil color, so it is getting vapor atleast.

Would a leak just leak some oil, or could it leak some exhaust pressure and/or boost as well? I need to remove my filter and stuff and put those little clamps on my hoses someday to make sure it doesn't leak. I also need to "rebuild" my can I guess to make sure it doesn't leak. I will be getting an FMIC upgrade soon and then I will be ready to hit the tracks.

Just emptied the RR OCC today, after me worrying above in the thread :P I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I'm very impressed with how there were no leaks, and how much oil it caught!

the people who are experiencing leaks: is it because you modified the can in any way or are people with unmodified cans experiencing leaks as well?

If you go on eBay, they sell the same cans but without the logo.

Just FYI. After clamping and resealing all the hoses, 2 days later I'm noticing the plastic tube change color. It's now working.

Your can is probably leaking, just put your index finger underneath it where the plug is. It will be obvious.
