My new 2006 330i Sparkling Graphite Metallic hood was bombarded
by some *&%$^^& birds, just a few light droppings, nothing heavy, but after I removed the spot using a wet paper towel, there are some scratch-like marks. I have read here about some products like Zaino, but I’d like to know if there is something more specific and easy to apply every time I get bird droppings or minor scratches? I don’t want to polish a brand new car, unless there is a product to avoid paint damage every time something stains the paint? I’ll appreciate any help regarding this matter, my wife loves birds and I don’t want to make this tragedy even worse Thanks in advance Paul |

Paul, sorry to hear about the scratches. I did the same thing to an older Honda I owned. The fact is that paper towels, no matter how wet contain micro fragaments of wood. Kinda like a sand paper. Never use paper towels or even tissues. Use 100% cotton towels and be sure to check the label for purity of cotton. Hope this helps!

Use scratch x from meguiars
Use Scratch X from meguiars, that product will remove the scratches without affecting the paint, it works very good. It works like magic and it is very easy to apply.
Read the instructions for better results. Search the product here. www.meguiars.com To remove bird s.... use a lot of water with a sponge, try to clean all the area very good and avoid cleaning the area fast because you will affect the paint. |

For bird poop I use a brief squirt of detailer on the offending area, let it soak for a bit and then blot or dap with a cotton cloth - don't rub or scrub at first. It may need another application in the same manner. This procedure will work orders of magnitude better if you put on a wax or couple coats of polish which will *protect the finish*. Let the acid in the bird poop work against that instead of your paint. Fwiw, the Zaino stuff really does a great job - bird crap and bugs wipe off easily with a squirt of detailer and a cotton cloth.

One time at band camp, I was removing some bird doo and I left lots of micro-scratches in the clear coat.
The next time it happened I got a cotton terry cloth towel that was soaking wet with fresh water and I placed it on the area leaving it there for about 30 minutes. That "soaking" loosened up the poop very nicely and it just fell off using a garden hose. :rocks:

The decision is always whether to wait until you are home so you can remove it safely/properly, risking it etching into the paint.....or getting rid of it as soon as possible with a tissue/paper towel/whatever.....
I tend to favour the latter as carefully as possible, and then repair any small scratches that may result, by polishing at later date.

I never thought that a soft-wet towel could scratch such a well- built car. I still believe there must be an easy way to deal with such minor annoyances. Regards Paul |

The BMW dealer suggested getting a product called "A Touch of Class" paint sealer when I purchased my car... if bird droppings, etc. damages the paint
they will cover the repair work. Best to buy prior to taking it from the dealer as it has a better warranty but can be purchased after taking the car too! Might want to check on this product and see if available at your dealer. |

Yesterday I purchased Scratch X that "evoq" recommended but I must now wait to try it as my E90 is still at the dealer waiting for the key ignition part to become available (they provide me with a very nice X3 loaner). Regards Paul |

LOL, this is why I think some forums need to have the old stuff removed! Times change, technology changes, and new/better advice is available. If people dont register and ask, they will be thinking the "old" advice is still king....sometimes
