new clutch needed

I gave the car in to my local BMW today - wasn't driving as smooth, they just rung back and advised me I need a new clutch, I have only done 1000 miles on it since buying it total mileage 19500 - has this happened to anyone else? cant beleive the lack of quality - my driving is not that bad and the previous owner was a lady - not sure how she drove it!

Which of the London dealers is it in ?? Might be an idea to get another opinion from another dealer, or an independent...

It doesn't sound right, having only lasted 19000 miles. However, there have been some faulty clutches and flywheels that have needed replacing in the early 000s of miles.

Describe how the car is 'not drivin smoothly' ? Do you mean there is jerkiness when feeding out the clutch, as in the biting point is soft and there's slippage, or is the jerkiness once you're under way and the clutch pedal fully released?

Blimey I'd not be impressed having to replace a clutch this early on in ownership!

well when i press down the clutch and move of it slowly you can hear a clicking noise, and the accelaration just doesnt feel smooth, but once in 2nd or 3rd the car is fine - it definitely is the clutch, the biting point jerks and instantly you know something is wrong with the clutch. BMW told me the clutch is on its way out so they will replace it under warranty.

on warranty, they are putting in a new flywheel too...I would never agree to pay for it, since I have only had the car for 3 weeks

My E93 'vert had to have a new clutch and flywheel fitted at approx 4k miles due to a poor biting point - car would often lurch when pulling away and was very difficult to pulla way smoothly. Just made you look (and feel) like a bad driver

Wouldn't worry about it as they have offered to do it willingly. I had to moan for months to get mine swapped (BMW even sent out their tech guy to visit the dealer and bring a comparable car for us both to drive before they concluded it was knackered!)
