This also not considering the ride issues, not just comfort but the compromised handling over bumps/broken road and when the weather gets colder. then you have the inside edge wear issues because it takes them so long to warm up due to the thickness of the rubber. I'm much happier on normal rubber with a jack, tyre weld and a compressor in the boot.

Had just the one puncture with the rft, and it happened to my wife. She was driving accross Leeds at approx 1am (and before there is any wisecracks, returning from seeing her mother in hospital in a bad way)

Puncture warning came on so she stopped and called me. I said get yourself to a petrol station before getting out and having a look - she did and rang me to say, "cant see anything, drives fine", and promptly got home okay.

In the morning I had a look, no visible signs of puncture, but zero pressure in a rear tyre. Put air into it, came straight out around a large nail. Rang round, found a tyre place with one in stock, drove about 20 miles on it, curiosity got the better for me and drove quicker than one should, and frankly amazed at how you couldn't really tell

So in this case, the RFT really did the business. Would you want your other half putting gunk in a tyre at 1am in the morning?

Saying that, I wouldnt go out of my way to buy a car with RFT's, but if its standard fit, then its a bonus. Never has any inside wear issues, have had 2 cracked alloys though.

Yes I guess that is a consideration, although she could have called BMW rescue who would have sorted the problem. I have used puncturesafe in the wife's focus for this problem. It's a gel that stay in all th time and seal punctures as they happen - so the blurb goes.

Im thinking of changing my RF 18s to 19s. Anyone have expierience of RF 19s and regular 19s in comparison to RF 18s? I'm more concerned with handling and steering feel as opposed to comfort.

RF 19" is like driving round with no suspension that's why I changed to proper tyres. 18" are more comfortable than 19"

Greedy tyre shops who want to sell you a new tyre instead of a £20 repair......
