Who's been having squeal at Low Speed?

I made an alarming discovery today, it happens that my car makes squeaking noises at low speeds (10-18 MPH). This isnt when i use the brakes, it just happens without any input from the driver.

I did some searching and found that it is a problem that the majority of the posts in old threads place the blame on accumulation of brake dust in the rear brakes. The problem seems to apply to 335i's and 330i's.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...e+dust+buildup

Did any of you recently encounter this problem? I just want to know if the dealer will actually fix this problem, they always seem to want to skive off fixing things.

I have this problem (2009 LCI !), but it didn't seem important to me. However, when I look at the onboard computer it tells me that my rear brakes will need changing much sooner than the front brakes (12.000km vs. 40.000km). I don't know if this is normal.

this has been an ongoing issue with a lot of people. I have '07 e92 with squeaks at low speed when brakes were not applied. SIB 34 08 08 is out there that addresses the issue. For me, dealer replace rear brake pads and sensors. So far, so good.

That because it only happens when the brakes are heated up (after you've been driving for some time). People have replaced their rear brakes only to have it pop up again in a couple thousand miles. I think some people have had success having their dealer adjust the rear brake sensors. I forgot what the exact adjustment was. Perhaps you can find it searching.

probably the most beat to death issue on this forum....you need to replace the rear pads or wherever it is squealing.

Same here. Although I'm still monitoring it for the squeal, rear pads were replaced under regular wear maintenance... and so far so good. (crossing fingers)

Same thing happened to me. Brought it in twice. The last time I brought it in (was a weekend) the SA told me to get a shop foreman to sit in the car with you. If he hears the squeak then they gotta fix it, even though everything checks out fine.

It is the brake pads and brake wear sensor that needs to be replaced...all under warranty if you take it to your dealer. I had mine replaced a couple months ago and have not had a problem since

My computer said the brakes still had 11k miles, but the dealer just replaced front/rear pads w/new wear sensors since mine was squeaking too. Said there is a service bulletin about it, your dealer should know about it.

They did the same for me but the sound is back!

I will ask them to do it again next service. Maybe replace my rotors.

Thanks for the useful input guys, i will get an appointment and take all this along to my local BMW Center.

I just want to say that it is a preposterous flaw and one i did not expect from any car. I did hear this sound while queing up at a drive through but just assumed somebody needed their brakes done. Another design and quality issue, how many more should we discover?

I too have the dreaded low speed squeal... mine seems to come from rear passenger side.

I assumed it was my just installed coilovers because it seemed like the sound was only producible after cornering hard, but after reading here about the possibility of the brake pads being the culprit it made sense because the sound consistently comes back after hard braking during heel/toe.
