So, the new 335d (306hp) is here

Engine performance details have just been released. 306hp (PS) and 600Nm.

Respectful.

I wanted to elaborate on estimated 0-62mph time. Current 330d accelerates in 6 seconds dead. My guesstimate (based on comparison of torque figures of 320d and 325d and according performance gain - 15% more torque should shave off 8% of 0-62 time) is 5.6 - 5.7 seconds, which would be amazing. On the other hand, that would place this diesel on par with 335i which I doubt.

Any thoughts?

Fair enough.
The reason I posted this in generic part of the forum is that I wanted to focus this discussion on 0-60 discipline.

More importantly, I wonder if it will enable existing 335D's the chance to tune more parts - if there is anything interchangeable etc.

Id be interested to see the ratings on that new 8 speed transmission. The 6 speed seems to be on the limit of a 'tuned' 335d, and the new one goes straight up to that line... wonder if there will be any room to tune at all?

Mmm ... This is the bit that really interests me. Allied with better fuel economy.

In the latest Autocar the Jaguar XFS Diesel takes on the 535D - and wins. So, good timing by BMW to imrprove the twin turbo 3 litre diesel unit.

The Jag won overall but they did say the 535d was quicker and gave better fuel economy on the test. I'm not sure increasing the power on the 535d would have helped!

Yes, I think their exact conclusion was that there was nothing really in it with regards performance. They felt the Jag gave a better overall experience/feel and rode much better than the 535D with RFT Sport suspension. And that is BMW's achilles heel in that market sector.

Thought there was a little gap in the bmw's favour is it not up around 20-25bhp per ton over the jag. The jag is a nice car though if a little old man.

But the majority of 535d's dont come with runflats though as most owners/buyers spec the 19 upgrade alloys so these come with normal tyres and ride miles better than a car with 18 runflats.

I've driven/owned both.

Not owned a jag not that old maybe at pension time (though they are making some nice cars now XK & XF).

Was talking wheel combos on 5's, the point i was trying to make was when buying top of the range cars (outwith M etc) then they are specd with wheel upgrade a vast amout of the time. And it probably the first thing you should tick on the extras box.

I know they give runflats as standard and ruins all bmw's M sport or not and this has me looking at other cars seriously for the next time.

Dont know what you mean about going aftermarket are you talking suspension or wheels...

Dont really think it 'class leader' anymore or over the last few years it doesnt have it as easy as the e39 did.
