IDrive and Ipod (Random Songs/Shuffle Mode) - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Anyone know how I can make my Ipod go into shuffle mode (not an Ipod shuffle, an Ipod touch) by using the Idrive system? I have the Ipod hookup and I can do basically everything else through IDrive, but I can't seem to find a shuffle which is kind of annoying when I just want to turn it on and let it go.

Do I have to just set this on my Ipod first? Or can I do it from the IDrive?

With the IPod you can set the shuffle mode from Idrive by selecting the current song with the Idrive wheel. The small menu comes up where one option is Random. Scroll to that and select again.

Works for me. Don"t think it should be different with Ipod-touch.

This should work. If you have an '09 with the updated iDrive, you will need to press the OPTION button by the controller itself to receive the screen the previous poster was referring to.

how abt for MY08 cars with what i presume is not the updated idrive??

I have an '08 and put it on shuffle by turing my iPod on, putting it on shuffle songs and then plugging it in. A little annoying that it can't be done on the iDrive system, but I think I'll try to see if I get one of the small sub-menus once I play a song, as JSH suggested.

On the 09 Idrive, you just have to hit the options while playing the song, or move the Idrive controller all the way to the right. That resolved it for me.

Makes a world of difference.

thanks for that...i'll look into it

does seem a bit stupid to have to do it this way though. my aftermarket stereo could fully control my ipod 3+ years ago....

I have on 08 and I just press the controller down to bring up the small menu screen. I select Random and check it. Works just like the second poster mentioned...

How do we shuffle songs if we do not have IDrive? my car is 09 335i

I have no problem selecting "Random". My problem is when I get back into the car, it has gone back to normal order. Do you have to select "Random" every time you listen to the ipod?
