Extended Warranty - suggestion
Hi
I have a 07 335i e90 with around 22K miles. I am planning to keep the car for 3-4 years so started shopping for extended warranty. Best quote I got was from Mecury insurance group which is offering 5yrs (from coverage date)/75K platinum coverage for around $1800. Do you think it is a good price? Any suggestion on who else can I call to get the price. Called Paragon motor club and they are offering similar coverage for $2500. With plantinum coverage they have some exclusion that is not covered by the insurance. Since this is my first BMW, can somebody please let me know what are the common things that can go bad after 50K miles on BMW, I just wanted to make sure that those are not excluded. Thanks in advance |

1.) First off I personally would never buy an extended warranty, which typically only covers issues related to the drive-train, and is NEVER the same as a factory warranty. (Waste of $$ IMO)
2.) You can't predict what's going to happen, no one can tell you what's going to go wrong with YOUR car. It all depends on what happens. 335's are still to early to tell reliability. ....But hey, at least BMW has extended your warranty on HPFP to 10 years or 120K miles. So you don't have that to worry about. |

The same with me..........i've been doing the warranty search all over....
finally i wont be buying it....mine is a 06325i with prem/sport with 34k miles....the price was $3200....i talked to some of my friends and forum members....almost 80% people say it is a scam...... when you actually get a repair.....if it is a small one they just do it....if not they try to find some ridiculous reasons to prove that that repair is not covered under warranty..... if you still want buy....i would recommend carchex or warrantydirect... |

Check with your dealer. That way you get a BMW plan that is reliable.

I skipped getting the warranty. I have 56k on my 07 and now with the fuel pump being extended to 120k I'm not to worried. The dealer wanted $3,500 for the extended warranty. I'd rather keep the $3,500 in my bank then in the dealers pocket.
I was also thinking of getting the extended maintenance but even that was like $2,200. I'm going to do my own brakes so it is just not worth it.

BTW.....are you the first owner of the car??
In that case BMW offers extended warranty on the vehicle.....I guess..... and FYI....there is no single extended warranty which is backed by BMW.....I tried to get it CPOed too.....but the dealer quoted me ~$2500...but that warranty lasts for 2 more years or 100 k.... so i haven't even CPOed by car since its just at 34k and on average i can spend ~$1250 for repairs if something goes wrong with it..(not the maintanence items..mind you.... ..)... IMPORTANT: IT DEPENDS ON UR VEHICLE HISTORY TOO....IF YOUR CAR HAS A CONSIDERABLE NUMBER OF REPAIRS SO FAR....MAY BE YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT BUYING EW.... |

Vamshi, I am not the first owner of the car. What I heard is that in Florida BMW does not provide extended warranty. Fields BMW in Orlando uses some National warranty company. I just have little over an year left on my warranty and I am planning to keep the car for maybe 3 years atleast so kind of double minded. But based on reply of forum members I think it is not worth it. Maybe I will buy some stock for $2500 and use it for repair whenever needed Only problem I had so far are related to Brake squeking, HPFP and Turbo lag software issue. Most of these are anyway not covered under extended warranty. Last edited by munu; 06-02-2009 at 07:15 PM.. |

My local credit union offers extended warranties at reasonable prices. It does not matter if you did not purchase the vehicle through them or even if you are a member or not.

ask about extending the new car warranty. or get the car CPO. its worth it since no one really knows what long term reliability of that car is like
other option i'd look for is going with mechanical breakdown insurance through your auto insurance provider (geico's coverage is something stupid cheap like $250/yr) like any insurance product you need to read the policy contract end to end to find out what is covered what is excluded and what the reimbursement terms are to you. i would not want to keep a bmw out of new car warranty personally, but if forced to i would pick up mechanical breakdown insurance that includes electronics |

I've had 4 policies with Mercury; 2 Platinum and 1 Gold. Platinum is no deductible, and aside from mirrors and glass, covered most things on 2 Audi S4 twin turbos, Mini Cooper S and Chrysler Minivan. Have to say they paid for themselves! Not too much hassle at claim time. |

Stay away from National Warranty of Florida, Inc. They are rated F, I spoke to Fields Orlando about this because they recommend them. Use the website www.fldfs.com to check out a company. I'm still shopping as well but running out of time. Warranty Direct is my current first choice but they are expensive. I have purchased extended warranty on last three cars and they all paid for themselves thus far, also adds to resell value.
