Good reason to 'invest' in tyre insurance

Got a puncture in the offside rear tyre last week and handbook and every tyre supplier emphatically stated NO REPAIR so new tyre fitted.

Nearside rear is down to 3mm, new tyre has 7mm. Porsche recommend no more than 30% wear differential on tyres on the same axle - outcome = another new tyre.

Here's a 'plug' (get it!) for tyre insurance gentlemen.

What would the tyre have cost without the insurance?

It's something I've though about, but not seriously looked into - what's the rough cost p/a?

500 is still 500 in anyones books whether you own a 5k, 50k or 500k car. To say it doesn't figure shows some kind of ignorance. Helen's in a privileged position due to working for it not because the cash fell into her lap

(I guess it was around 500 retail per tyre?)

Rear boots are normally 302 but Kwik Fit did the punctured one for 265 all in as he incorrectly quoted me for the wrong tyre but honoured his first quote.

Direct Gap is 109 p.a for 19" wheels. Max payout on any one tyre is 250 upto 1k and 5 claims are allowed. They also cover runflats. They generally base they're quotes supplied by KwikFit, but you can use any supplier of your choice. However, if your supplier says that your tyre costs 300 and KwikFit will supply the same tyre for 270, then Direct Gap will pay out based on the KwikFit quote.

First time I've ever and been told that under no circumstances should any of the tyres be repaired!

50k Carl - wish it had cost that dear me, I don't know.

Anyhow bloody good tyre those Pirelli P Zero Rosso's - mega sticky!!

+1 carrerasr

If you know your tyres are getting low you can at least 'plan' for the big spend, but punctures are a pain in the ass, and can occur when you least need the outlay

I drive a 50k car but if I had to chuck on a pair of rears tomorrow unplanned I would still be feeling a bit pi$$ed about the spend! Saying that just cos' you drive a high value car, then tyres etc are just small change is a little silly.

I may look into the tyre insurance, sounds a safe bet Helen!

That's odd Mike, I've just done a quote and it said 139 - must of had an offer on when I did it? Oh well still worth it imo.

Defo. worth considering Paul

Actually Carl - I had an '07 Cayman S to trade in which was still fetching mid thirtes and like I said when I got the Turbo, my Dad 'helped' me buy the car (sound familiar), except your Dad is still alive............so once again, thanks Dad RIP xx

I DON'T make digs at you so stop making yourself the centre of attention.

I could say I'm sick of your digs at me............you of course would deny.

I get sick of reading about 1/4 mile times but keep quiet so don't even try and single me out...........besides why be so bothered what I say Carl, didn't know you cared tbh. Joke btw.

Helen, I think what Carl meant was, it's a high performance car so you wouldn't skimp on tyres or cut corners. It just didn't come out quite right.

Carl loves you dearly and often thinks of you and your Porky T when he is blowing his trouser trumpet.

It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things imo besides which I'm much better at discussing things face to face, so get yer arse up here Carl lol .......anyhow I'll have to see if I can get the same mileage out of them as Carl does his

As for the tyre insurance, wonder how may worn tyres suddenly get punctures...........surely the reduced tread COULD make them more suscesptible to punctures.

I just got the same 139 quote - might be worth hanging on a few days as these firms often give you a discounted 'last chance' offer.

I have used click4gap before and 10 days after the quote they emailed back with a 15% off if urchased today deal. A colleague at work wanted gap insurance. I told her to try the same, and sure enough, after 10days a 15% discount code was emailed through!

Will be pi$$ed off if I get a puncture now in the next 2 weeks ha ha

What happens if the tyre is 50% worn when you get a puncture - do they only pay half?
