Dual Cone Filters with JB+

I've intstalled the DC filters today, and tested them with the JB+, which is set to max power as usual. I can't feel any difference with the butt-dyno and it seems clear they don't do much on this power level. The boost was 13.8 PSI today, previous max recording is 13.5 PSI, so it may have provided a few extra horses, but nothing that is noticeable. Saying this, I don't mean they are not doing any good, just that they are not meanful on JB+ level.

I really cant see you needing more flow at that level. The only thing you might do is eas the load on your turbos at the cost of higher IAT and less filtering, more dirt in the engine bay.

Id say you need to be on a JB3 or in that range of map 5-6 and up before you mighgt see a gain, but until independent tests are done, we may never know....

Even then it could be worth it on one day, and not worth it on another...

+1 You gotta be putting some serious power down to make a change in intakes worthwhile. Up to The high 3's the stock airbox should suffice.

I would think the factory setup is better since its pulling in cooler air compared to the DCI stuffed inside a scorching hot engine bay

IMO the spooling sound alone is worth the $100 or so you spend on the DCI's

Yeah, I pretty much keep my DCI on for the spooling sound. Though the spooling is pretty quiet still.

You start to see the gains at 11-12psi, and they come from around 5000-7000rpm, basically wide open throttle. As with any change a little adaption time is needed to get the full benefit.

That is pretty much what everyone who hasn't done some testing/tuning with the intake says...

DCI is great as long as you have a good FMIC. I refuse to use them on a stock FMIC for heat reasons... not to mention it is probably pointless for airflow reasons due to the restrictive nature of the stock FMIC and piping/connections.

I just did too. Deffinitely more of a throw you back in your seat feeling. The butt dyno likes it.

I'm sure on a nice stretch of open highway the DCI would see some gains. In real world conditions with a combination of sitting in traffic etc.... No thanks.

Even if it shows a few hp gains it isn't worth raising the dealers suspicion when you go in for service or warranty work. Yeah you can argue that who in their right mind would go to the dealer with mods installed but at the same time are you really going to start pulling out every mod whenever your car goes back? Just my opinion

Might as well just get the BMS. I dont think the CAIs proved to give any more HP over them at 3x the price.

Thx Mike, I hope you are right. Can you confirm your statement with a dyno curve? I'll also give the filters another opportunity to show whether they provide gain with JB+ (at max-setting) or not and report my findings.

I have done some testing with and without my homemade heatshield around the DCI-filters.
And with the heatshield mounted I did lower my AIT with 59 F (15 C), and the power feels much more stable then before.
When I was driving the car in the city at low speeds, I could feel a distinct loss of power without the heatshield.

The engine prefers cold air, even if you have a better IC mounted on your car.
Thats a fact.

I'm afraid you can't show this on a dyno curve.
This is something you will only feel using your car IRL, without super effective high speed fans blowing on you engine during a dyno test...
