When to replace brake pads?

I have had my car for almost 10k miles, but through those 10k I have been a bit hard on my brakes. I went on a rally that lasted about 4 hours through tight twisties and had a few emergency braking situations. My point is that I am thinking I might need new pads being that there is real possibility that they are wearing down faster than most drivers would. When should I be worried about the brake pads? They aren't squealing but they are looking a bit thin. Any help would be appreciated.

I was under the assumption that the OBD system would tell you when you need to change pads? I'm not really sure, the dealer have changed my brakes twice already, once was regularly due, and the other due to the rubbing of the sensors.

Well. I've got no warning yet, but I am planning on bringing the car in for oil/filter change and was trying to get everything out of the way that needed done.

There are two wear sensors in the brake system, one in the left front wheel, and one in the right rear wheel. As the pads wear down, the sensors come in contact with the rotor. Once the pad wears down to the point of needing replacement, the sensor breaks a circuit and triggers the brake pad waring light in the instrument panel. Once the indicator comes on, there is enough pad left to easily go a few thousand miles before you need to replace them (where they would damage the rotor) and when they would not provide any braking effect. So don't worry, the car will tell you when the pads need replacement.

My car went 75,000 miles before they needed replacement. Every car varies based on driver technique and travel conditions. I do 600 miles of agressive back road storming every week. I bet you are not even close yet.

Took my car in for 15k service Wednesday and asked them to check the brakes. I've done a few track days so they are almost gone. Tech just wrote that the pads have 5 mil left so I guess they wait for them to wear really low.
