Lightbulb Euro Delivery (ED) pickup on May 2nd. Anybody wants to go on a fun 1-day drive?

Hi,

I'm picking up my 330i in Munich next Monday. I'll be there bright and early at 7:30 AM (this is my 2nd ED car, so I know how the process works). I'm estimating that I'll be outta there by about 9:30 at the latest, but hoping for 9 AM.

One of my best friends is a German native (Munich), and he created an amazing route for me that will involve about 10-12 hours of driving along Germany, Austria and Italy. I only have 1 day to drive the car, because I drop it off in Munich the next day, to head back to the bay area.

If anyone would like to join me for the drive, let me know. We'll talk off-line about the details of the route, but know that it will be a full day with a lot of spirited driving and sightseeing :-)

ciao...

I wish I was in Germany to join you Someone take him up on his cool offer and post some pics/experience. I've always been curious about ED. Or if nobody joins you, make sure to tell us how it was or share some photos!

Let me know if you want more info on the ED. I think it's an amazing program. I would never buy a bimmer (or could afford one), any other way :-) I'm saving about $6000 this time around, and saved about $12K on my 330Ci, about 4.5 years ago. The more options you get, or the more car you get (5, 7), the more you save. I can tell you offline why you save so much. But the program is totally awesome, and you get to drive your dream car in Europe for up to a month, with 0-deductible free insurance :-)

ciao ---

Yes, we can start a mini convoy. I'm driving for two weeks, ending in Madrid. I arrive in Munich on the 30th and head to Milan on the 3rd. Sounds like your buddy layed out a great drive. I'm staying the night in Munich, so can't follow your entire route, but it will be fun for the day! See you there!!

I'm staying the night (Monday to Tuesday) in Munich as well. So I really hope that the time estimates are correct, because I plan on coming back that night, to sleep a few hours, and to make it to the drop off location on Tu morning, and then to my flight back to SFO.

Here are the details:

http://ziv.tzo.com/Munich_driving_tour.pdf

It would be great to get a few people together. It will be safer for all of us, and a lot more fun. We do tons of "spirited drives" in the bay area, and this will be similar, except in a brand new car, over 3 countries, and probably a lot more driving :-)

Wow, I just did that drive this weekend!!! Very Awesome. There is one tunnel that is over 17km long. It would have been better if I was driving my E90 though (2 more months to delivery)... I'd love to join you but I don't think my 2.0 4 cylinder Opel Omega (same as Catilac Catera)could keep up with you . It is a DOG of a car (damn company car).

Hi,

Can you confirm that you did the exact same drive? Are all the passes open?

Here is some more info I got:

http://ziv.tzo.com/The_following_pas...ill_closed.pdf

We may need to re-route the last end of the trip, if this pass is indeed closed. Stay tuned.

we can't wait. We'll definitely post pictures/movies as soon a possible after the "mini convoy" :-) I host my own web site, so pushing content onto it will be very easy. If I can get a web connection in Munich, I'll do it the same day. If not, the next day.

you got it. I promise I'll post a very detailed photo archive. I'm a photographer, so the photos should be pretty descent :-)

Of course, I'll also post my impressions, and I'm sure that Troy, who's joining me for the drive (as well as some guys from Southern CA, hopefully) will post their impressions as well. But be warned -- my impressions will only be favorable . I'm a die-hard BMW head :rocks: , so I can't find anything wrong with these cars. But all jokes aside, I'll do my best to post a fare review

OK, found a workaround thanks to my friend who created the route originally:

So instead of going down to Italy we can go from Zirlerberg directly to Fuessen and take the extended part of the route ...

We're all set :-)

Guys,

Just a quick note -- I had my username changed to my first name -- "ziv". Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks ---

Modified Route

Hi,

My friend hooked us up again, and due to the closed pass, he rerouted us, and we now have this amazing route.

Check out the new PDF. It's at the same location:

http://ziv.tzo.com/Munich_driving_tour.pdf

Guys, we're making history here. We're probably the first ones to pick up or ED cars, and we're the first ones to drive them, together, in Europe :-)

Some of these roads look like mountain roads? I'm guessing there will be some beautiful backdrop for some photos! 17km long tunnel Can we see a video being made in the tunnel to showoff the car's exhaust note??

I'll try. I won't have a consumer digicam with me, but rather a digital SLR. Digital SLR's don't take movies :-( So if one of the other members will have a digicam that can take movies, I hope they'll be able to do it for you. From my camera, all we'll get are stills. But they should be good stills :-)

Digital Camera & Digital Video

I'll have my digital camera and I'm bringing a digital video camera. I have Final Cut Pro for editing. Can't promise finished footage while I'm there but will post as soon as I can. With a pro photographer like Ziv helping me, I'm anticipating some great results.

Wow, so envy .... I hope I am in Germany and can join the journey ...
I'm going to pick up my 330i in early next week, but it's not so lucky that there is a good route in Hong Kong for enjoying my new be-love....
