It is a extension of the cooleant radiator. BMW has chosen to improve the cooleant cooling as this also lowers the oil. But viceversa should do the same to my opinion.

Be aware for people without M-Tech kit, you will need to order also an air duct for improved air flow.

I do have some questions as I'm thinking about just buying the cooling parts of this kit.

1) Is the ecu managing the water flow? Or is this handled by a mechanical device?
2) Related to question one; would the extended water pump function normally?
3) Could a device like the procede manage the above?

Thanks for posting this! Software details will also be important.

Any idea how this would work with the M aerodynamic kit?

Ok, I noticed that the additional cooler was on the left-I was also thinking it was an additional oiler cooler. Thanks for the explanation.

A nice upgrade, but too pricy...
I'm going to buy an OC upgrade - much cheaper, same (or almost the same) result.

It should fit with the M Tech kit, as the kit needs an additional duct...

I can order it here it europe, but it will take some time before it is ready for delivery.

By the way there are two parameters that have to be cleared.
1st the ecu msd80 or 81 which comes from the production date
2nd there are two different airduct sets for M bumpers is 5174 2157 670
and for non M is 5174 2157 668.These codes are given for E92 cars.
There are other codes for E90/91 and other for series 1.For Z4 nothing yet.

Finally some details. I thought there was a pump update as well though.

So do you sacrifice the fog light for the install? Not that I care, just curious.

You won't lose the fog light. The outside half of the new grill is just open whereas now it's blocked off. Basically opening up airflow like it is on the passenger side if you have an oil cooler.

I'm feeling like an engineering tyro trying to figure out how the H20 flow works -- there must be a valve (temp controlled -- electric?) that shunts flow from the top coolant hose into the line leading to the accessory radiator, and the back to the pipe from the (?) heat exchanger. I attach schematics of stock cooling system to point out differences in fan and for seeing how the Perf system fits in.

It would be cool [sic] if someone with hydrodynamics engineering (Orb?) could explain how this system works and how much additional cooling they think it might provide. The new fan blade design pulls more air, and the new accessory radiator provides more surface area for heat exchange.

There may be partial solutions (e.g., just getting new fan) for those of us without cooling problems and wanting to save $ and weight.

I would also like to know how the software changes with this system will integrate with piggys and flashes. For example, it would be dumb if GIAC's (LET, etc.) flash obviated the software that governs the cooling functions. Piggys presumably would not have this issue because they don't alter code.
