Definately Rolex. Amazing watches and very classy, solid and the envy of all timepieces. Thanks to Scooba, who pointed me to a GMTIIc I'm now addicted to them. My fav at the moment is my Milgauss GV...top watch in the flesh the pic's don't do it justice.

rolex...i got my gmt II 3 yrs ago and i can pretty much sell it the same amount as i got it as they go up in value. i like my panerai too (but not everyday watch for me as it's too heavy/bulky to be an everyday watch).

Not in the slightest my friend, that is my view. Rolex is the most copied watch in the world. It seems to be the watch of choice for the most unsightly people I come across. I find if you have money and no class it seems to be the watch of choice, present company excepted. I have worked in and around the city for many years and I find most people I engage with generally wear Breitling, Panerai, Tag, Patek and F Muller.

I can understand from an investment point of view a Rolex can be a good buy but I dont buy watches or cars for that matter as an investment.

i'd have to agree also.....

when i got my brietling superocean, i had my choice of any watch, but the final pick came down to breitling superocean, rolex sub, and omega seamaster.

i tried them all, but for me it was the breitling that won me over.

the rolex may have been smaller, lighter, and 'classier' (to people with who cant wear a bigger watch :P) but for me, the breitling ticked all the boxes....

whatever you choose, choose it to wear, and choose the watch you feel comfortable with.

but i know which i would be choosing.... and did

Pick whichever is the less vulgar and ostentatious.

(i.e. the Brietling....)

So now I have a BMW, do I also have to waste 1000s on a flashy watch that tells the time less accurately than my two G Shocks?

Do I also have to buy borderline chavvy "designer" clothes, holiday in expensive but slightly naff resorts and shout a bit too loudly about how much money we make?

Damn.

Not at all mate. I knew there would be mixed views asking this question in the first place. I'm not a loud, flashy guy buy any means. And not loaded either! I've always loved nice cars and nice watches. I don't have the best car in the world but it's nice. I don't want the best watch in the world but would appreciate a nice one. I have a few friends that wear rolex and some that wouldn't dream of spendin a few grand on a watch! But that's the same with everything in life. I tried on the breitling a good while ago and it really was a superb piece and just 2 weeks ago tried a rolex which was lovely too, only the guy tryin to sell me it was a ballsack and put me off at the time because of how he spoke to me. So we're not all BMW perverts but also watch lovers too! I think it will be the breitling I will go for when I get the rest of the readys together and thanks for all the comments. I thought it was going to be a clean sweep with rolex but a few at the end there levelled the field! Sone nice pictures too of some quality watches!

Good answer.

If you do a search I think there is a thread from a few months back on watches with a few choice pics.

Why a joke, I completely agree! I just feel like Rolex seem cheap these days. When I buy a watch I want something that has some weight to it. I think Rolex is still a great time piece, dont get me wrong, but I think Tag is a gr8 watch too, yah I put them both in the same sentence, I don't think one is better than the other. As a matter of fact I would take a top notch Tag over a Rolex, unless I was going to resell it of course.
I think Rolex is just a status thing, not a great looking watch, but when you see one your like "man this guys is a baller", only reason is cause their expensive. JMHO.

Congratulations on everyone who can afford these nice watches. I absolutely love watches and I probably could purchase one, but I am not at the level I want to be in my career to warrant such a nice watch. If I had my way, I would pick up a Breitling Navitimer

Breitling is defo my choice. Have a Chronomat Evo.

I only think a Rolex that is all gold and covered in diamonds is chavvy. The one above look very nice and un-chavvy.

Bit like buying a 335d when you could have bought a 320d......

A 335d is faster, brakes harder.

What does a flash watch do that a cheap one won't? Anything? Except massage the ego of the owner?

Sorry but the above statement about "wishing I could afford one" is a bit lame.

Get one if you wish, but don't use it to make it look like you've "made it."

Sorry for the rant, but I have a slightly OTT hatred of anything bought for "status."

Try getting of your high horse and think before you tarnish everyone who owns a decent quality watch with the same brush.....

A 335d being faster and breaking harder than a 320d is hardly a justifiable answer when there is a 15k gap in price....

A 3k Rolex/IWC/Breitling uses better quality parts than say a 1k Longines and you buy it based on this, it's ability to retain some of it's value and in some instances desirability. A 3k watch is nothing to person who spends 10k on one.....but are they buying one just for status?

Most people outside of BMW Ownership think that BMW Owners buy BMW's just for status.....is that the case with ALL BMW owners, does that make you a subject of your own rant?

But a 335 outperforms a 320. In watches, a cheap quartz watch is more accurate than a Swiss movement and by some margin. Each to their own but it's a facile argument comparing to cars.

Sorry you feel this way mate but your knockin on the wrong door! My thread asked the guys that have or like nice watches what there opinion was about either breitling or rolex? No where did I ask how much will my ego boost? U asked what does a cheap watch not do. Ask yourself what a 335 does that a 2 grand fiesta doesn't? It's the same principle. If someone wants to spend money on what they like and enjoy then that's there choice, not for you too rant your casio does the same job! I'm afraid it's not the same mate. My 10 week old daughter will never go without, she's going to new York in November for her first holiday!
