Mechanic advise after oil change. Why?

Hi guys. Glad to be in the forum. I had my oil change (80,000km) few days back. The engine oil was so thick that the service dealer have to do the engine oil flush twice (is that common?). After the new engine oil went in, he told me take the car for a good spin for awhile(revving it up btween 4k rpm - 6k rpm). Any particular reason for that??

I suppose its common as "piece of mind" to:
  1. drain oil + replace filter + add new oil
  2. drain oil + add new oil + (new filter optional)
If the oil in the engine is particularly nasty. I'd do it to my car. Something about black and thick oil in the engine makes me feel uncomfortable.

The advice to run the engine hard is to get any nasty boogers loose and make sure that every part of the motor internals sees the fresh oil. Your mechanic is looking out for you.

Thanks for the reply. Now I'm going to make this mechanic of mine 'my car's good buddy'

+1, he sounds like a great mechanic, which can be hard to find. Keep him on speed dial.
