ordering 328i coupe
Hey - just wanted to get some ideas from others in this community after talking to a BMW dealer in SW Ontario.
First, they would not budge on the msrp stating the model is very limited and the dealer is allotted only four 328 coupes til March. At which time they are given another allotment of four. Also, I noticed people who are getting 1000$ off or whatever are ordering the add-on packages (NAV etc) so is this why they get a discount? I would expect those packages are marked up quite a bit and thats why the dealers are negotiating(?). The only addon I would like is a sunroof. I'm also leary because my trade-in quote was VERY low and the salesslum came up with some bad justifications for it. This is my first time looking at BMW but am hoping someone here can give me direction on the negotiation part. Full MSRP with nothing at all thrown in seems a bit unreasonalble... or is it? Appreciate any comments! |

You can get better than 1%. However, the demand is high so you will have to shop around and the inconvenience may not be worth it. The dealer allocation sounds low. Are you prepared to wait?

Sounds like you need a new dealership. I'd personally hit some of the GTA ones since their allocations are likely much higher. If you PM me I will gladly give you the name and number of two CA's who I consider very good, both personality wise and at getting you the best deal they can. I would expect you can get at least $1500-$2000 of msrp; that seems to be the going rate for 328/335's right now.

The delta between MSRP and dealer invoice on a 328i is about 3000$ - 3500$. you're right trade-in is tough. you must contact several dealers and make them match the other offers. It's a long process and could be frustrating. But for me it paid off !! Good trade in for my E46 325Ci and good discount. Good luck ! Don't give up !

Sorry, you're right I should have specified that $1500+ is going rate on 335is, probably less on 328i's. I also went through four dealers and actually ended up going with one with less of a discount, but way more on trade. In any event, I guess the bottom line is that there is room to negotiate below MSRP, so the OP should shop around.

Alright, thanks so much for all the replies! Yes, I am in no immediate rush to buy the 328 - in fact, how much am I looking to save if I bought the car on a cold day in February? That is to say, if I could get off $1000 tomorrow, how much more would I likely get in a slow sales timeframe? an additional $1000 (so $2000 off msrp)? does BMW negotiate that much? I'm not overly eager to buy a nice new 328 and then throw it a cold salty Canadian winter.

It's hard to say what winter will do to sales; a lot of guys I know are waiting until winter to buy their 335i's because they think there will be more room to move. Let's put it this way; there won't be LESS room to move, so you aren't going to pay more for that. If you have a trade it will depreciate in that time, but whatever.
I think buying in in Feb for a May delivery is a fine idea. ![]()

Any placing an order in February?
I heard some dealers are not able to get any e92 allocations for March or April production, is this true or just attempts to make you place your order now, or do not negotiate the MSRP discount much?

Yes, production slots are sold out for the next couple months. Try larger dealers who will probably have more allocation.

Production slots are limited even for the big dealers.
My CA was great - I finalized my order 2 weeks ago and have an April production number 8###### with a late may delivery. ![]()

Wish me luck, Maranello BMW hasn't got any for April production. I hope I can get something for May production, delivery would be in July at the earliest.
I will try other dealers, ordering 328xi, Sprt Pck, not sure about Nav yet. |

you can get more discount buying demo car....
if you build yourself, not that much discount compares to buying a demo car.. but buying a demo car, your choice is limited. |

just to keep in mind, a demo car might not be a bad choice if you are leasing, since you are done with the car after 3-4 years, all the problems will be put on the next owner, NOT you and you can enjoy the savings right from the start...

Demo's are a great value. We generally depreciate them quite a bit. It really depends on the KM's on the car and time it has been in service. If you are worried about how demos are driven then only consider leasing it.

Demos are not a bad idea especially if you're leasing, but there is not a lot in the market, all over Canada there are only three, one in Toronto, one in Montreal and one in Regina. You will only get a discount in the lease rate, not much in the price, since the car is fairly new.
