BMW 335i HPFP Issues In Canada

I'm thinking about getting into a 335i but what worries me is the HPFP issue and the turbo-reliability. I want to finance and buy the car and keep it for over 5 years or so, at least until I graduate and use my own money to purchase the new-gen M3 But at the same time, that 335i is a BEAST

So I'm wondering, how often have people in Canada with 335i's experience the HPFP issues and other misc. failures? I've been reading thread after thread in the general forum about it failing and in the Canada forum there seems to be less.

I know theirs A LOT less people in the Canada part of the sub-forums but it seems like in Europe, the HPFP on the 335i's aren't failing or not as often as North America and some people think it's the ethanol in the fuel.

So is our fuel better for our HPFP and are 335i's in Canada less-prone for the HPFP issues/failing cause of different fuels compared to US? Please share your opinions and two-cents and also if you've had problems with the turbo's and HPFP issues.

I checked several used 2007-2008 335i's. I checked all their service record history. For cars with 40,000+ kilometers, mot of them have had a "fuel pump" replaced. I don't know if it is the HPFP or not, it just says "replaced fuel pump".

I don't know if mine on it's way out but I've been experiencing some interesting things at idle, start-up and full-throttle pulls on the highway. So I'm changing pugs first.. then the HPFP if I still experience the issues. I will keep you all posted.

Have an 09' and got the issue. It's hit / miss on these cars and whether you have the HPFP issue. They fixed it and it's been good since.

Any common causes to the HPFP issues? within certain build years? or cars without sport packages? oil coolers?

i don't think hpfp is a big enough issue to prevent someone from buying a 335i. it's easy to detect a failure, it generates a fault code, it's not that expensive to replace. all cars have issues that are common amoungst the models and bmw is no exception.

instead, use this info to budget accordingly so you're not financially surprised by a service requiring hpfp replacement.

What? You haven't even graduated yet and you can already afford an expensive car like a 335i? (I know you said "finance", but you have enough CREDIT to do that already?)

And, you think you'll be able to afford an M3 right after graduation?

What are you... a med student?

Not really, my parents are buying the car but it's not for me alone since it's going to be more of a family-orientated car

I know I can afford a M3 after graduation but I'm not a medical student. It might not even be right after graduation if the 335i is still running fine.

I had my HPFP replaced under a recall on my 07 335. Anyone else get theirs recalled as well?

Dentist?
NHL Hockey Player?
Movie star?

I'm a professional engineer, out of school for 13 years now, and I just bought a new 335i and I consider that a BIG purchase.

I don't know how a relative "kid" still in school figures he can afford a new M3 right out of school. Are you going to live in your parents' basement rent free?

Negative, but does it really matter how much I will be making or what occupation I'm getting myself into? If I get lucky then I'll make well over 200k, if not then I'll be making enough for a M3 and I won't be living in my parents basement

Don't want to burst your bubble, but you need to make well over $100k/year in order to afford an M3 AND not live with mom and dad. There's not many jobs out there that can get you $100k after graduation, except for doctor, dentist, NHL player, and movie star.

$100k/year = $60k/year after taxes = $5000/month

M3 payment + gas + insurance per month = -$2500/month (at least)
Rent + bills + food + miscellaneous = -$2500/month (at least)

For the people that are curious, feel free to PM me. I'd like to keep this thread on topic since I'm sure it'll help more then just me, knowing the HPFP issues and such.
