AMS FMIC Installed: +23 whp peak, +43 whp @ 6700!

NOTE: This Dynojet reads low and always has, please keep this in mind when trying to compare across dynos, which should not be done and is a very common mistake.

Pics are not resized. Cry me a river, I'll fix them later.


Before/After AMS dynos are about a week apart. Dyno room temps were within 5 deg, humidity was higher today.


Run 1: AMS FMIC, RR CL DP, DCI, JB3 Rev 7, Map 7 93 octane

Run 2: Stock IC, RR CL DP, DCI, JB3 rev 7, map 7, 93 octane

Run 3: All above mods, JB3 in passthrough mode (map 0) which is stock boost, fueling, etc. YES I KNOW THE NUMBERS ARE LOW FOR STOCK WITH MODS, see note above.





Speaks for itself. The car is ridiculously smooth now. It also lights up my 275s rolling into 2nd gear at around 3500 with my 6MT, which is an accomplishment you AT guys wouldn't know much about


Hugely impressed with gains on this dyno! ~100 whp/100wtq with ~7 psi increased boost!


I have lots more pics, and commentary, but I'm at the dyno and I just wanted to report back.













Thanks to AMS for the awesome FMIC. The results have far exceeded what I expected.

Thats an awesome gain. It would be cool to see the actual gains at the track, or vbox also.

As far as us steptronic guys not knowing about spinning the tires on a 2nd gear roll on, I beg to differ, LOL:

Lol, no I meant that the ATs spin if you look at the throttle too hard...it takes a lot to get a 6MT to do that in 2nd with decent tires on the back

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. I know IATs have a huge effect on performance. So I can see how this could be a big benefit.

Aftermarket FMIC

These should definitely be in the top 2 mods to any N54 engine .... followed closely by new shoes.

Please correct me because I have to be wrong.... But my understanding of an aftermarket intercooler is so you can run the same power without as much boost (1psi'ish) and you can sustain the power for multiple runs back to back (not get heatsoaked)

That is my understanding - and why I find it hard to believe that you gained so much power from this mod.

Please correct me!

Actually - did I just kind of answer my own question? Since you get better air flow and can run the same power at 'less PSI' - that means you can push an 'extra psi' which translates into 20+ horse.

Because I had an AMS big turbo kit and FMIC on my Evo that I really liked as far as quality and performance. They do a lot of real engineering behind their products and I liked the cast end tanks as well.

Well there's a few things going on. Mainly the much cooler IATs allow the ECU to run more timing, and the JB3 also runs "more" boost (the IAT related boost decay doesn't kick in and start lowering boost pressure due to IATs getting out of control). There's also better flow, and less pressure drop so the turbos aren't having to generate as much boost pre-FMIC as before, which helps flow on both the intake and exhaust sides of the system.

Sorry if this sounds like a negative comment , but i really dont believe that just a FMIC could result in such gains. There must be a mistake on the dyno-run or you compared results using different maps. This is a really big difference.

There is no mistake. It is a big difference. The logic of the tune does not decay boost because the IATs remain low with his upgraded IC. Since IATs and pressure losses are lower, you will have a lot more power.

I don't think you gain any hp if you dyno the car with stock IC against a car with upgraded IC just after the engine has warmed up, right ? The gains are coming after some engine running time when the stock IC becomes unable to cope with the extra heat. This is my supposition, correct me if I'm wrong.

So I suppose they beat the hell out of the stock IC car until it got some low numbers on the dyno, then they beat the upgraded IC car the same number of times and then dynoed it and compared the two runs.

It also depends on the fan...the more powerful the fan, the less gap between stock and upgraded. And the less powerful the fan, the more gap...

Heatsoak isn't the only factor, Aftermarket IC's also flow alot more than the stock IC.

There is no mistake, and I know for certain what map I was on. Also, if you look at the dyno graph, you can see that the power curves are nearly identical in their shape, other than the fact that the aftermarket IC starts to slowly deviate away from the stock IC run starting at around 4k, continuing to slowly pull away throughout the run. That's pretty obvious that IATs are playing a big factor in allowing the car to run maximum boost on the dyno. The biggest delta is near redline where the stock IC is out of heatsink capacity while the AMS unit still has quite a reserve (not accounting for the flow increases, etc of an aftermarket unit as well).

There was no dyno funny business. The pre and post IC dyno runs were the FIRST runs done at each dyno session and the highest power production of each. With the upgraded unit, there was a run where I nearly made 400 wtq, but hp was down 3-4 from the run above.
