I just got non runflat Michelin PS2.

What a difference over the stock Bridgestone RE50A RFT. The PS2's are much quieter and way more compliant over pot holes and bad roads. The PS2's are also 3LBS lighter in the front & 2LBS lighter in the rear.

Turn in about the same? Would you say the sidewall is a little softer?

The weight saving is a great performance improvement. Anything not supported by the suspension is unsprung weight. Multiply the savings by 4.

Funny you say that. I just made the same change and noticed the same improvements as you. I have had PS2's on 3 previous vehicles and they are great tires. They also perform very well in the wet weather. Only issue is they wear fast, but it is worth it.

Hard to go wrong with PS2 tires, they are consistently among the best.

I've had my PS2's since February.

I immediately noticed a big improvement in ride quality. At first, I missed the great steering response the RFT's provided, but after living with them for 7 months, I love them.

They are softer on initial turn-in but they firm up quickly. Plus, I'm not straining my eyes trying to avoid road irregularities and my car isn't getting beat up as badly on rough roads.

I made the same switch. The difference is like day and nite. I can not believe BMW ruins the quality of ride with such shitty tires. I am pretty sure RFT cost BMW thousands of potential buyers.

I read a lot about the RFT's before I bought my car. When I took a 328 and 335 on test drives almost 2 years ago, I was amazed at how well the RFT's rode. After I bought my car, I discovered their dual personality. Fantastic steering response and a good ride on smooth roads. Terrible ride with the back end hopping around while cornering on rough roads. I concluded they are fine for smooth German roads at high speeds but terrible for most of the roads we drive.

The ride was so bad on the rural roads near my home that I often avoided them or drove my car slower than my wife's Camry so I wouldn't beat up my car! That's when I knew I had to get the PS2's.

I had the PS2's on my previous car. They are a great handling tire. Only draw back is milage. They will wear down faster.

Not faster that the bridgstones right?? The treadwear is 140 for the RFT's and versus 220 for the ps2's.

I just replaced my PS2s with Hankook Ventus V12s a week ago. I am shocked that they are just good and even better in some ways than the Michelins, and I paid half the money for them too. I am such a picky bastard and I was skeptical about the V12s, but they have truly impressed me. PS2s are great but now I know there are other options.

I have the V12 also and think they are great at a fantastic value. The tires are so good that I do think that when Hankook becomes more established they will raise their prices to match the big players in the tire industry (michelin, bridgestone...etc)

If your car came with PS2's from the factory they are runflats. Michelin calls them ZP for zero pressure. My 09 M Sport has them. BMW has been fitting them at random to test for customer complaints. A great tire and much better than the RE050. You can't tell the PS2 ZP is a runflat.

About how many miles are you guys getting out of your PS2s with just regular driving conditions?

Trade wear is 220 and it depends on your driving style.

the great thing about non runflat tires is the weight saving. Tirerack post all the tire weights on the site.

I'm also considering making the Runflat to NonRunflat switch - or at least from the OEM Bridgestones to the Michelin PS2 ZP

I know ride quality must be better with the softer sidewalls - I fear roadwork right now.
But Weight? Can 3-4 extra pounds in the corners make that much difference (if I'm not on a racetrack)?
More of a difference than my 110 pound passenger or groceries in the trunk?

Thanks

Good question. My car seems more responsive after shedding 24 pounds of unsprung weight (RFT->PS2) and adding 24 pounds in the trunk for the compact spare, but i might be imagining it. Here are the weights of wheel/tire combos.

328i, 17" style 161, Bridgestone RFT, 204 pounds (2*(21.4+28) + 2*(22.5+30)
328i, 17" style 161, Michelin PS2, 180 pounds (2*(21.4+22) + 2*(22.5+24)

335i, 18" style 162, Bridgestone RFT, 206 pounds (2*(24.8+25) + 2*(26.3+27)
335i, 18" style 162, Michelin PS2, 192 pounds (2*(24.8+21) + 2*(26.3+24)
335i, 18" style 162, Michelin PS2 ZP, 208 pounds (2*(24.8+24) + 2*(26.3+29)

I'm seriously considering buying style 162 wheels and Michelin PS2 ZP's, but I hate to add 28 pounds of unsprung weight.
