There is a safety aspect here that might be relevant. Say you're passing someone, you're pulling at a good clip, say 140km/h, and another car turns onto the road coming towards you in the left lane. Your only alternative is to hit the gas and accelerate to complete the pass safely. You briefly hit 163KM an hour, because you have a great car that has this option of accelerating to safety. If you did that and hit a limiter at 150KM/h, you could be dead.
Let's be honest here - if you pull out and pass a line of 3 cars, it's easy to hit 160km/h if you have geared down and floored it. (Not that I have done this, of course!). If the conditions are suitable for that, then the more swiftly you can pass, the safer it can be. |
