Sick Sounding Exhaust

Was with a buddy of mine last night who owns a 335d, totally stock. Dude fires it up and it sounds like a beast. He was talking about some "game changing" exhaust system. Has anyone seen this before?:

$900 Euro for what basically amounts to a speaker that plays fake exhaust noises? No thanks.

Anyone who buys that deserves to get their money taken from them. That's laughable.

Isn't this the same thing BMW does with the M5? I agree, a shame. "Game changing exhaust system" actually had me excited for a second...

Lots of manufacturers are playing fake engine sounds over the stereo system for the driver, I dont think anyone is using an external speaker though. I think the stereo solution is a combination of newer engines just not sounding the same as what drivers want, and new construction methods keep a lot of sound out of the cabin.

I remember joking about this for cars like civics and such when I was younger. Something like playing the sound of a big block from your econobox. Keyword being "joking"

Personally i dont get the hardon everyone has for exhaust noise. I take pride in the fact that my D breezes by on the track almost silently while the gassers whine around in the high rpms.

Going to a nascar event is a whole different story though. 'Merica!

Wow this thread is hilarious.

I had something like this on my bicycle in the early 80's (twist grip that made motorcycle sounds)

LOL!!

EDIT: Holy crap here it is LMAO:

I noticed in Europe and other countries they love to fake the funk and put the M badge on their non "M" 3 series n other cars. It's pathetic IMHO.. In the States, that's rule number one, don't be a poser! Lol

I'm at work and the sound didn't play. Having read the comments I don't think I've missed out.

I DON'T CARE WHAT U SAY, IT'S ABOUT THE END RESULT AND THAT IS THAT IT HELPS TO SOUND BETTER AND TRUST ME THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE BUYING THIRSTY YET NOT THAT STRONG PETROL ENGINES PURELY FOR THAT SOUND EFFECT, SO DON'T WRITE THIS OFF. AUDI HAS THE SAME THING ON THEIR DIESELS AND IT SOUNDS AMAZING AND I WOULD GO FOR IT IF BMW HAVE THAT OPTION, BUT HASN'T AND ALL THEIR DIESELS SOUND DULL AND THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT....AND PLAYING A SOUND INTO THE CABIN IS THE PATHETIC THING AS IT SHOULD BE PLAYED OUT. AND AGAIN, I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST IT BEING FAKE, BECAUSE IN MY OPINION THE POWER OUTPUT OF DIESEL ENGINE DESERVES BETTER SOUND.
HERE IS THE AUDI OPTION, BUT ONLY FOUND IT FOR THEIR 2.0TDI, AND NOT 3.0, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A PETROL V8 https://shops.audi.com/en_GB/web/zub...8t0071901a-10#

AND HERE IS THE VIDEO, CO BMW STAND NO CHANCE...

Oh yes. I was living in Prague the past four months. They really go above and beyond in Europe. Forget about BMW roundels...they literally have fake ///M roundels on the front, back, center caps, and steering wheel, along with the trunk and grille badge.

Buddy. Forget about engine mods. Just get a bigger amp and speakers. Pimpin stereo and louder engine at the same time.

So the point you're trying to make here is that Audi car sounds like shit if it weren't for the exhaust "amplifier". I agree.
