Non - rft tyre update 12,000 miles on.

Having lost faith with the wear rate and shocking ride quality of Bridgestone RE050 run flat tyres, I thought I would try non run flats. No ordinary tyres, but Capitol eco 7 at the then price of 306 for four (April 2013). Did a little research, they are made in China I think but sold the world over.
My 330d is an SE, not an M sport. I don't corner sideways and I don't travel anywhere near 155mph (who does?)
And I have to say, I have encountered NO problems in 12,000 miles at all! Ride improved, stops as it should, corners ok.
I had one slow puncture, which was repaired.
One rear is now down to 4mm on the inside, 5mm on the rest.
Im not suggesting you guys rush out to buy them. They are much more expensive now anyway. But they suited my driving style and finances at that time.
The Bridgestones almost put me off branded tyres....

The jump from any runflat to a normal tyre is significant.

Owning a car you need to budget ahead. If you aren't doing many miles like yourself, tyres are only a thing you need to buy every few years.

You've done 12,000 miles in 19 months and the tyres still have 45% of their legal life left.

The tyre that stands out in the market at the moment is the Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2. A premium tyre at a mid range price.

They would make your car stop much faster and turn well.

When you think how long tyres last you, it is a small amount of money to spend. Quality tyres make such a difference.

I've had Goodyears since March 2013 and that's my rears about done. I've got around 2.7mm of tread left and although the legal limit is 1.6mm, I won't put them back on after the winters go on.

I can't be far short of 20,000 miles. That's not as much as the Pirreli runflats lasted though.

Agreed. Kwik fit are offering 4 x Goodyear Eagle F1 reinforced tyres for 386 less 40 cash back, making 346. Excellent for a branded tyre! Im not sure if these are the AS2 tyres you refer to? Certainly seems a good deal.
I never regretted the change to non rft.
On recommendation on this forum, I purchased Green Slime I think its called, and a 12v tyre inflator. Fortunately never had to put them to the test!
Had a letter through inviting me to BMW for an MOT at 54 odd. But today I was asked to pay just 24.95. Not bad!

Cheap tyres aren't allways crap, as you have testified. With a bit of research some of the budget brands can turn out to be pretty good value for money. I bought two primewell sport 910's 255/35/18 for about 140 at the end of last year and although i didn't use them for that long, the grip in all conditions was really good and they weren't noisy or anything. I'm tempted to go back to them for all 4 at beginning of next year.

I am doing the swap at next rear change. I can get all 4 corners done in 19's for 550..and that is Eagle F1 Asy 2's!

Going Hankook or Kumho can shave another 100 off that!
