2011 335i M-Sport

TL;DR= car got hit while parked, body shop fixed car...paint is shit...brought it back 6 times...now it's at another place getting stripped.

I'm gonna tell you all the Sad Story that is my E92 Purchase...

April 4th of 2014, i bought my first BMW...a long loved 335i (fell in love with my buddy Mase's 2007 335i back in 2009) Anyways, it's the M-Sport 6 Speed model, i saw it from a far, and had to check it out! It was in IMMACULATE condition... and Priced just right.

Needless to say, i bought it.

here are the only 2 pics i have of the car, before the wreck...

continued...

so yeah, like i said, it was wrecked...THE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT IT!

So I was out to dinner with my new Girlfriend (an actual woman...not the car), having a great time in downtown Savannah. It's getting late, and i have to Work a 12 hour shift the next day!

so we head back to the car, which i parallel parked on the side of the road, and i notice my gas door is open. My first thought, someone tried to siphon some gas!

I was wrong... way worse. A High School kid, on his way to Prom, in a BORROWED truck, Sideswiped my car!

*notice the temp-tag*

so anyways... i knew i had bad luck, but i didn't think it was this bad.

So my car and 3 other cars were hit... mine didn't have the worst damage, but it was the nicest/most expensive car hit.

Twisted suspension on the Passenger side as well.

I'm sorry about your car. Was it deemed totaled? What happened next?!

Man that's fukn bull shit.

Reading this actually fills me with anger, fukn dogs that don't know how to treat other peoples' property with respect.

I know that feel of when a tow truck guy gets shit dirty, except during a service from Brabus (automotive shop for Euro cars) where my car came back to me with pen marks throughout my interior!!

Also had a dumb kunt "stab" my car (rear fender) which has left a small hole in the side of my bumper, I just used a permanent marker to colour the white marks so it isn't noticeable anymore.

Hate people that don't know how to respect other peoples' property.

now it's Fixed..........or is it!?

so during all this repair bullshit...i'm following every step...

initial estimate was $9200...then it was $10,400...then it was $11,700...and the end result after all said an done $12,671....or is it!?!?

They were going to replace 3/4 of my wheels&tires...so i convinced them to order me the Alufelgen CS7 and i had to buy the tires.

my old Civic with my new hunny

well, that's all the pretty pics i have for now, but the plot thickens!

ok, lil bit of backstory on me... in the last leg of high school, i was an apprentice to a well known Body Technician at Autocrafters (paint/body shop in Jacksonville FL). I learned a lot from him in the short amount of time that i worked with him...one of the most critical skills he taught me was, nitpicking paint!

oh man! did i have a field day with the paint shop!

....continued

so what i was dealing with, was some really shotty paint work, and carelessness.

They couldn't explain to me what those Gray Speckles were... to me, it looked like the paint separated, then they cleared over it. anyways... it happened everywhere that there were blend spots.

this was the second time i had to bring it back (i didn't share the first set of pics, because they are bad cell phone quality.)

i brought my car back to this particular location 5 times! for the same issues...and then some more that they created!!
on the 3rd return, cabin air filter gets a nice coating of paint! chemical smell anytime the ac is running!
on the 4th return, i got in contact with USAA and they sent out a "Specialist" to meet with me, and the Manager of that branch location.
this meeting proved to be useless.
on the 5th return, my driver side door panel returned to me with a hole in it!

that was the last straw for me...USAA sent the specialist back out to meet with me and the manager. they suggest i send it to another one of their locations and let them take a whack at it. "They Painter over there has 10 more years experience...blahblahblah!"

i was skeptical... the next day, the Owner of the PAINt shop calls me and promises that it will be handled as top priority at this other location (main headquarters)

...continued

Now we are at the new location. I meet the manager, seems like a nice guy, shakes my hand and promises it's gonna be taken care of! I give him a quick run down of what i've been dealing with, and he holds firm on his promise!

3 weeks later (btw, pretty much every time i had to bring my car back, they had it for 3 weeks! 2 months for the initial repairs)
They've REPAINTED THE WHOLE CAR! and not in a good way... hard tape lines GALORE! there was nothing wrong with the passenger side of the car besides a small ding in the quarter panel near the door handle (which they didn't repair, they just painted over it)
they also rolled over a sharp object with my pass-rear tire, puncturing the sidewall (no air leak) and chipping the wheel's powdercoat.

well, this is the manager in the background... pouting, the day i brought it back to that new location. (everything circled is trash/debris/fisheye/scratches.etc)

i have since picked the car back up (it's current state 1/28/15), and have similar issues as noted above, EVEN THOUGH i was very clear that i was gonna be nitpicking the shit outta it!
Trash! Fisheyes! more hard tape lines... they replaced my wheel and tire though.

anyways... 2 weeks ago, i met with the owner and the USAA Specialist (they came to my Place of Employment)
they wanted me to show them all the current issues, and discuss the potential solutions.

Option 1: Give them one more chance to make it right! (8th time's a charm!)
Option 2: hand it over to BMW dealership and let them deal with it (all expenses paid)
Option 3: Let me have anyone of my choosing to do the repairs!

i told them i wanted Option 4, BUY THE FUCKING CAR FROM ME!

Their response, "that's not an option." ...so i'm having the dude who i used to apprentice under do all the repairs (get out the sanding waves and fix any other issues) then his shop, Brumos Collision Center, will do the painting, sanding/buffing.

they deal with high end cars, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW... so i think they are the best option at the moment.

so, they are paying for Shipping my car, my rental vehicle, and a WHOLE over paint job with disassembly!

anyways, that's my sad story.... virtual pats on the back appreciated.

Just read the whole thread, are you sure you're not being too picky? I mean, everyone knows that when you get it sprayed at a panel beating shop it isn't gonna turn out perfect. You don't expect it to be perfect, if anything, far from it... But you expect it to be unnoticeable to the untrained eye.

Just remember that it's all done by eye & hand, and the facilities they use are no where near as good as what car manufacturers have (automatic machinery, etc.).

Good luck with it though, chief.

everything that i am nitpicking is preventable.

they just have a bad habit of making it worse and worse.

i worked in the paint and body field for almost 2 years before i switched to something else...i've been around enough paint jobs to know when i've seen a good/bad paint job.

Trust me. this is bad!

You're NOT being too picky. Insurance DRP's carry lifetime warranties for a reason. Their responsibility is to bring your car back to "pre-accident" state. Best wishes!
