Looks like it's going(been replaced by am M5 with pics)

Gave up this week with the sale but sure enough Thursday night I get a call from an interested party. So panic on, wheels changed and I'm off to Leeds on Monday to meet him tuesday avo. It's a long trip for both ofus so I hope the sale goes through. Going to stay there for a few days to test drive some RS4s and M5s and whatever else takes my fancy. Better get on the phone to book some times.

I'll really miss the 335i, especially the wee things like exterior extended lighting and the wee leds under the strip in the door but hopefully I'll have V8 ro even a V10 to make up for it. Then again might end up car less for a few weeks!!!!

heard so many things, M5 is better but has a crapo gearbox, then again biggest problem with the 335i is a lack of grip with no LSD so I suspect at this time of year the better economy and 4 wheel drive of the RS4 (plus the car i have in mind has an extended warranty til 2011) will sway me.

Never driven a 335i in any guise nor a M5 (sure the M5 is a bit of a beast though) but SteveA kindly let me drive his RS4 last weekend at UK8.

Really impressed with the car in all respects tbh. Nice blend of power and torque, loads of grip, excellent handling and even on sports setting, the ride was still very good. Interior nice place to be as well............oh and that V8 rumble is rather tasty too!

Good luck with the sale Finnie mate (was wondering how you were getting on the other day) and with the search for it's replacement.

Well the sale was complicated as buyer didn't show up but luckily an email came through and the new owner picked up the car this morning for a bargain price. Can you believe the brakes started rumbling on drive to Leeds!

Anyway test drove the rs4, really liked it but found it a bit of a dissapointment. Nice car but seat rattled and very hard on the road. Went to a trader to try an M5 and

Loved it but walked away. Next morning went to see a fully loaded sverstone blue one and after a chat put a returnable deposit on. So now that I've got the funds I'm on the train now to go pick it up! Insurance arranged for a cost of 35 notes. Not much difference between modded 335 and the m5

looking forward to the drive back north including all the fuel stops!!!!

Nice one Finnie. You're a lucky man!

I've driven a M5 on a number of occasions and they're simply an awesome car. Even the gearbox isn't too bad in reality. I'd love one.

Congrats on the M5 purchase. Logical next step. What a weapon of a car.

Finished the 400 mile journey home last night.

Simply what a car!

Negatives first though, the gearbox isn't the best in the world but I'll also add that I've never had an auto. I've driven a few but have to say I've never liked any of them. I always seem to find that when I know the car is in say second I find myself lifting off to try and get it to change to third. So not a good start for the semi auto but after a good drive up through all sorts of conditions I have to say that it is ok. Maybe I'm getting used to it, maybe it's adapting to my style of driving, maybe I've found a decent auto mode for it (d2 or d3 is pretty good). Anyway I don't know why but it's all going to be fine.

The good bits...... Everything else!

The long motorway journey. Nearly five hours from Lincoln to Glasgow in the dark. No probs, arrived fresh as a daisy, warm and comfy. It even managed just under 25 mpg at around 80 mph. Who can complain about that from a 5.0L V10!

So yesterday morning I left Glasgow to head North to Ullapool. This drive was even better as I now had the chance to look around the car more and see more of the details. Comfort access is brilliant (once I figured it out after two or three incidents of sitting in a car park trying to figure out why I couldn't start the car). The climate control is worlds ahead of the 335s system, it's just so much more adjustable. I won't go on but you can infinitely adjust the flow and temp. Then there is the seat. Yes it's the one with the punch you in the kidney function but apart from that it's just so comfy. It seems to adjust in every single direction electrically. I had to laugh out loud when i figured out the headrest moves up and down electrically!

Then came the best bit of the drive home. Not sure if anyone on here has ever driven from Inverness to Ullapool but it is quite simply one of the best roads there is. Well surfaced, wide, undulating in places full of flowing sharp and long bends and very very fast. Of course I never once exceeded the speed limit but I can tell you that the feeling of being hard on the brakes flipping down through the gears and then flooring the throttle coming out of the bend (up to 60 in low gears only of course) was just the best driving experience I have ever had. I was simply astonished with the car. I have never driven anything so accomplished but yet so so comfy the rest of the time. I'll just say that that includes the 200 bhp Caterham 7 I have!

So thats about it. I'm just up, going for breakfast then am going to wash the flies off, read the manual some more and show the car off to some friends. Oh and I'll take some pics and post them after I've washed it.
