Are E90 ECU's Encrypted to deter remapping?

I wonder if E90 ECU software programs are encrypted by BMW to prevent tuners from tampering?

That does make it extra complicated and risky for your ECU map to be altered. Have hackers managed to crack the encryption code completely?

Or could there be booby traps hidden in unhacked regions to surprise owners who don't stay within the boundaries?

Keen but cautious. THanks
