Unhappy Which car would you get?

I just wanted to know what you guys think...if you had 18k, which sports car would you get? I'm after something which is fairly recent...preferably a coupe, and 0-60 times in less than 6sec...and more than 200bhp....and 4 seats...excluding BMW....

Mazda rx8 R3?

Dude, don't get an RX8.

Honda S2000, Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru Sti, C5 Z06 Vette all would be much better buys.

So much rice in your suggestions. Eugh! To each their own. If I had to choose S2000 for me, the "rice"iest looking of them all!

If by "rice" you mean cars that are fairly new, are built well and outperform anything else for the money then I say yes, they are "rice".

Don't get me wrong I admire them for what you've stated.

Going from a Bimmer to one of them is a fair step though. More likely to go to Benz or Audi or another equivalent.

The only thing that would be affordable for him with good performance from audi is maybe a B5 S4. That 2.7L twin-turbo V6 can make some great power!

He did say 4 seats...

you could prob just sneak into a new shape Audi TT 3.2 v6.

Won't set the world alight, but it will do 0-60 in under 6 and all the rest!!

My bad, forgot about having 4 seats. It really also depends on how old of a car he is willing to purchase.

Nothing wrong with a bit'a'rice. Although to be fair I'd not plump up that much cash for an S2000 (plus it's only a 2 seater). You could pick up a very nice one for 10k as the engines run forever.

18k, 4 seats and quick. Hmm.

Your looking at Audi or Porsche really, for those criteria plus a touch of class. Forgetting class and going for outright speed, choose from a whole long list of rice metal. 18k will get you hypersonic speeds.

But in the meantime I'd be looking at an S4 Audi, a Monaro, 996, possibly jaaaaag xkr, maserati 4200, maybe a golf R32/gti... depending on how usable you need those back seats, possibly TVR Cerbera with a warranty in place.

ETA: Forgot about MB... some serious AMG metal going cheap these days, including CL500/600s, C32s etc. Heavy on the juice but sound great.

Is it me or does that Maserati look hideous from behind?

I absolutely loved the boomerang tail lights they used to do, but yes it doesn't look fantastic, but still much better than most 'normal' cars. You definately don't look at the average Audi for example, but you would look at that parked in your local car park.

It's completely what each person wants from that car at that specific time.

To be fair, Kevin's car is the best medium sized, 4 seater car out there for the mix of performance, ability etc. Just a shame he's having such a mare with it.

Have they made any changes to the RX8's engine with the latest version?? I've had my RX8 since Friday and can't quite make up my mind on it. If I was to be pushed I'm imagine the ownership might be a little short-lived!!!

What's the budget for ongoing costs like?? The Maserati 4200 is an awesome machine for 'drama' but not necessarily the sharpest tool in the box but does cost a fortune to run...

What about a Scooby??

You are in hot hatch territory. Meganne R26 probably or a Focus ST if I could stretch the budget.

The reality is that neither are as good as a 335i

My 2p's worth.....

Erm....

This is really difficult to suggest something recent thats not a BMW and to get something not, well....sh!t.

So, on top of whats already been mentioned, looking at a wide range of options how about....

Alfa Brera 3.2 V6
Peugeot 407 V6 coupe (on second thoughts....maybe not)
Mercedes CLK350
Ford Mustang (did I just type that?)
VW Scirocco GT

Of the above, I'd almost certainly go for the Scirocco, or at a push, the Brera for something different.

Thing is...are any of them better than a 335i?

Oh dear Kevin, afraid I've no real suggestions in that price bracket tbh.

But seeing as you're having continuous problems with your car, may I suggest that a great deal of my thinking about a particular marque is how any problems are fixed by the dealer. Yes, I realise that is possibly a sore point at the moment but what I'm trying to say is when (fingers crossed) the problems with your car are fixed see how you feel about your car then.

In other words, try not to let this bad experience affect how you see the brand as a whole. Although if it isn't sorted satisfactorily then in all honesty for me it could well stop me ever buying that marque again.

We're all different and think differently though.
