Question 2010 335i Coupe Radio Problems

Wanted to know if anyone is experiencing the same issues. I just got the car a week and a half ago and the radio is having problems. I have the Non-navigation and non-logic 7 just the basic radio option which comes with Sirius Satellite Radio and HD Radio built in.

1. When the volume is turned up the speakers start to pop and loud static. This is not even at full volume.
2. Satellite radio is stuck on acquiring...

Took it to the dealership and they told me that BMW is working on a program to fix the issues because it is a programming problem. That they would call me when the programming is available but no ETA on when. For some reason this is not a good of enough answer for me.

Don't know if anyone has experienced the same thing also does anyone know what is the number to call BMW directly about the issues?

All responses are appreciated...

Thanks

I am having the same issue, but I still have to bring it in to the dealer. I know this thread touched on it, but I am not sure if they are experiencing the same issue we are:

My post:
Thank god, I am not the only one that noticed this. I noticed this issue a week after I picked up my 2010 335i that comes standard with HD radio. I didn't have this issue with my 2008 135i. I finally figured out as mentioned previously that it was the speed volume control setting and I lowered it to 1, but I still have issues from time to time when I have the music relatively loud. I get a very loud distorted sound almost sounds like a broken sub-woofer. I jumped quite a few times when I first got the car because it was so loud. It is very annoying and I wish I could turn this feature off. I will try to ask the dealer, but I know they will blow me off; I will have to take them out for a spin and show them.

Good to know I'm not the only one I took it today and after 2 hours they told me there is nothing they can do that BMW knows about the issue and working on some fix. They told me it had something to do with the Satellite radio.

All I know is that it SUCKS! going to keep bothering the dealership until they have the fix.

Thanks for the response...

Temporary Solution

I adjusted the settings and it seems to not be doing it anymore but still needs to be fixed because just one more notch of the bass and it starts with the pooping and static.

I put:

S-Vol - 1 (it was on 2)
Bass - 3 (was on 6)
Treble - 6 (was on 8)
AUX Lev - 3

Will update when dealer gets back to me...

I find it hard to believe this wasn't checked before the car was released. I have similar settings as you, but once it gets warm again and I put the windows down, I need the radio louder resulting in the distortion. I will keep you updated also on what my dealer says.

Do both of you guys not have NAV and Logic7? I wonder if this problem is a global issue w/ all 2010's w/ SAT radios...

I have the standard without navi or logic 7 it has the sirius satellite radio and HD radio feature built in.

Your right as soon as I started driving and put the windows down or up distorion again it takes all the fun of having the car it's embarrasing. I really can't believe BMW didn't check this.

I contacted BMW customer relations because they have to do something, they are researching it and will get in touch with me I'll keep updating till we get to a solution.

That's pretty weak - i'd be really frustrated as well. Hopefully BMW takes care of you on this!

Haunted Radio

I have the same Sirius problem with my 2010 335ix. My car just spent a week at the BMW service center in NJ with the "German engineers" and was returned to me with no improvement. At this point the dealer is telling me they can't fix the car and will reimburse my Sirius subscription.

Is just me or is the standard radio's sound not that loud? I find my self listening to the music with the volume all the way up sometimes even with the windows up. I think I might have to upgrade the interior speakers and amp.

WOW the german engineers have no fix for the issue we are doomed!!! They need to upgrade our headunit to logic 7 or just upgrade it to the one without the satallite option. Honestly BMW cant just say we cant fix it and thats it.

The volume is extremely LOW! its ridiculous I had a Chevy Cobalt rental that will blow the *** out of my radio. Also my lease turn in 328i Sedan had the standard radio and the sound ten times louder and crisp and the car was 15k less than this one.

Its ridiculous!

Thats what I figured. I am still debating if I am going to bother to bring it in. Its strange I didn't notice this issue with my 135i which also had the standard radio.

I don't have a Sirus subscription, but if I get it, are you guys saying that Sirus doesn't work at all or the sound is distorted at times?

The sound is distorted always on every mode, with the Sirius it just goes in and out and gets stuck on "acquiring..".

There is now a temporary fix for the satallite radio problem until they come out with the programming fix.

If you press the "AUDIO" button on the radio and select the "SAT" option, the satellite radio works with no problem.

This makes me believe the programming fix might work.

Going to take car back to dealership next week to check about distorted speakers because its two separate problems and they want to blame it on the satellite problem.

I also have a 2010 and the Sat get's stuck in acquiring. I'll have to try the SAT button. I do not have any volume or static issues.

Yup, sounds like software. Bet BMW is happy they don't have to swap radios on 2010's that are already on the road.

When you get the popping and static is it on any source or just SAT?

Any source, but the volume along with bass and treble have to be pretty high. I listen to hip hop and R&B, so I tend to have this problem more than others.
