Peeling Door Handle Pull

Seems you can't buy just the drivers side pull piece and instead have to buy the whole drivers doof armrest for like $200+! Truth?

This is true. Dealer is going to replace mine and they say the whole thing has to be replaced.

I had mine peeling from the pocket above the section marked 3. Went to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty but I don't know if they had to replace the whole thing (1,2,3)

Yea, the pocket is the only problem. I can't believe you can't just replace the pocket, it looks like it's a separate piece!!

For $200+, I think I could live with the peeling for a while longer. I'd rather spent that money on the split armrest.

This is what happened to me as well and my car was not under a warranty.
I didn't want to spend that much money so I removed the whole peeling surface from the handle and it still looks brand new

Mine too

My driver's door handle has the top "rubberized" surface peeling too. WTF? It's all bubbled up. Wonder why BMW would use this type of covering if it peels up.

Also, there is a piece on the steering wheel doing the same thing.

It's good to know they will replace it under warranty. I'm getting mine changed out. Looks lame.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Once I did it I stopped looking for a replacement part.

Btw. it might take some time to remove the layer where it doesn't start peeling yet, but I used a flat screwdriver to scratch it off and it worked out good.

Well, I can kind of live with it the way it is, my car's interior is black and it is not that bad. I don't want to make it worse and have to shell out $225. or whatever it costs for a whole new armrest that otherwise is perfect.

for the coupes, it's not just the armrest, but you have to have the entire interior door panel replaced (for the passenger side). my tech showed me the invoice for the part. it was $1000. thank god for warranty.

Mine only started peeling, so the whole time under warranty, no problem.

Good on one hand and bad on the other...
