Seat Position

Question about seating position. Who has their seat in the proper driving position and who prefers to recline their seat back so their shoulders and back are barely in contact with it - the gangster lean.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the proper driving position but I'm worried that more and more people are going for the gangster lean these days.

I was in a BMW last night with the gangster lean and.... I don't know.... it just doesn't feel safe to me.

This is MJ doing the gangster lean the other way.

He's dead now.

I'd say that the gangsta lean is just a bit safer than driving after a half dozen martinis or so. I suppose it may work if you want to take a nap for a little while when you're driving...

My seat position hasn't been changed for 2 years since I adjusted at Mosport after a lesson from an instuctor.

Me and my friend do it differently. We have the seat in the gangsta lean position, but we sit somewhat upright in it. I know, that doesn't seem comfortable, yet somehow... it is.

Lately, I've had the seat in a fairly proper position though... gettin' old I suppose.

I'll occasionally recline a bit, on long-distance trips, but on shorter trips and always around town, it's "wrist to the top of the wheel" time.

+1.
My instructor said wrist at the top of the wheel and lower back set securely into the seat with foot flat on the deadpedal. Gives proper leg travel for clutch. Close to what I had been doing but felt right (track and street).
Seeing the Gangsta lean annoys me - but I'm getting old.

I'd be worried about crazy whiplash if my back and head were that far away from the seat and I got rear-ended.

I heard the gangsters do it so their head is behind the B-pillar in case they get shot at they have less chance of being hit from the side.

i too after a lesson on mosport raceway have my seat in an upright position. for many reasons, visibility, control, comfort and full body/back support.

i never understood why ppl have their seats reclined so far back.....never made any sense.

I sit quite upright so that I am comfortable and close enough that I'm in full control of the car (easily reaching the pedals with my feet and steering wheel with both hands).

I had a friend that used to sit with the "gangster lean" in his car, still can't understand how it can be comfortable or safe for that matter.

My seat is leaning back but for my height (i'm 6'1) I think it's fine however I find it funny when some guys have their seats so far back that they can't even see over the dashboard.

i programed 1 in my seat to sit upright and closer to the wheel for spirited driving, and 2 is a little more relaxed for long highway drives.

i usually use memory 1
