itS going back into dealer.

it has not started 3 times for me since my last service, now a BMW Tech is going to be there when the car is serviced 3rd times a charm, i hope we can get this resolved :?

Lately my car has been taking longer to crank over in the morning, even in warmer weather at times. Never got a 1/2 engine light, no limp modes, no SES light, etc. Do you think it could just be time to change the spark plugs or is it more common to be early stages of a faulty HPFP? I'm JB3 tuned btw.

i've been having the same problem for about a month now, i doubt it's the spark plugs, it sounds too much like an HPFP issue, unfortunately, as my dealer told me, there's nothing they can do until it spits out an error message... meaning, i get stuck in the morning on my way to work. they really should be more flexible with this, i mean they know it's a problem because they've extended the warranty to 100k miles or so.

Ask them to test the pressure on the pump, they don't have to wait until it will throw code. If they don't, take it to another dealership.

i have a 2010 with 1200 miles and it's been taking a long time for the car to start. noticed it happens primarily in the morning and when it the car has been sitting around for hours. if i turn off the car and start it again immediately then it starts normally. let's see if the dealer is willing to run some tests for me.

Just had the pump on my '08 replaced -- car was in for a different problem, and I reported continuing long cranks in the morning. No codes. They pressure-tested the pump and it failed. Now I have the new one...let's cross our fingers and toes that fixes it!

At 56k miles in 21 months of ownership my June 08 335i M sport was showing no signs of the infamous HPFP failure, perfect idle, perfect start everytime, but just over a week ago it started throwing up the emissions light. Took it straight to my dealer and they could find nothing wrong, and cleared the light.

Following morning on way to work it flashed up engine malfunction and went immediately into limp mode, before almost stalling in front of oncoming traffic at a T-junction. Called BMW emergency services and their technician spent over an hour trying to trace a fault before it threw an ECU software code when stalling at idle.

Car was recovered to dealer, and after a day of testing it apparently showed that all four O2 sensors (either side of the Cat) recorded that the car was running too lean and that they believed the HPFP was the cause. Have now installed the new pump (943) but still cant have car back, as it now shows that the injectors are not working correctly and these are on back order.

It looks like a fairly complex problem with your car, and it is good to see that the technicians have done a thorough diagnostic work. Sorry for your problem - most of us hope the 943 pump will last longer than 56 kmiles. Good luck.

Just for reference, my old 2008 had the HPFP fail with 149 miles on the odometer. Anyone have fewer miles than that?

My neighbor's 535xi failed at 87 miles in her driveway

I stand corrected. My hope that the pump would last at least 150 miles was clearly unrealistic and futile - I gather the true record is zero miles travelled.

Is anyone aware of a new SIB for the long cranks. I took in my car for the summer tires swap and talked to the SA about long cranks once in a while. They had reprogrammed the DME with the new SIB and the SA told me that this will fix the HPFP issues. FYI, My car has the 881 HPFP.

My 09' just was in for this. However, I got poor throttle response from it. they are checking the issue as we speak.

A couple of weeks ago I've had 3 different long cranks with an interval of 200-300miles..
So basically there's no pattern.. It stopped doing the long crank last week and it's been 600miles now since the last long crank that I had..
I took it to the dealer yesterday(that's the only time I have) and the indicated

Fault 2FBF PRESENT. Following Diagnosis as per SIB 11 55 06,
Vehicle REQUIRES PROGRAMMING. PROGRAMMING NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION.

- The aftermarket installation that they're refering to is the Pioneer Z110 stereo that I have. My SA mentioned that it requires the original stock stereo for them to perform the software update. I have the stock stereo but it's just hidden under my compartment.

My questions are:
- What does the SIB 11 55 06 contain? Does anyone have a copy of it?
- Does it really require the stock stereo to be present in order to perform the upgrade?
- I'm not sure what version I'm in right now but do I have to have the upgrade installed? I'm already in 49,400mi...

Anyone help? I'll open up a thread if I don't get an answer around...

I took my o7 335i to the dealer for long cranks/half check engine light as well as the dreaded wastegate rattle. Now they call me a day later telling me they changes the software to fix the crank/engine light issue, but they can't replicate the rattling sound.

Come on, the rattle is soo clearly audible it's bulshit thati have to go back down there and argue with them. What's the most recent bulletin for the HPFP and what does it say to do? I want to show it to them because I think they either

1) changed the pump and are not telling me because it will be the 4th pump replaced on my 20k mile car

2) they reall. Did just reprogram it

Regardless I need to have them replace the pump so if someone could direct me to the most recent bulletin that would be great

...well long cranks and some stuttery acceleration and i knew it was the pump again, thanks to warranty... my punp (HPFP) #4 is...

13-51-7-594-943 .... so it looks like i recieved the "new" version, car is running like a charm, I hope this one lasts a while :-)
