Steam from engine after car wash?

After leaving the Esso touchless car wash, there is quite a bit of steam coming from my engine which is escaping through the kidney grills. It goes away afer a few minutes (after the water burns off I guess) but its a bit disconcerting.

Does this happen to anyone else or is there something wrong with my car? Is this bad for the car? Should I try a different car wash?

Don't think it's anything to worry about. I'm assuming it's just cold water hitting hot engine parts.

Happened once after Esso touchless. Don't see anything wrong with it or potentially harmful.

Have to admit, a bit of steam from kidney grills looked very nice =)

lol.. yes, very aggressive. Its a bit embarassing though when people are staring and wondering why i'm driving around when my engine is smoking..

anyways, i agree, its just steam caused by the water hitting the hot engine, but i found it strange and a bit worrisome given that i haven't seen this happen to other cars (although it must).

Same here. It happened in an ESSO and Canadian Tire touchless car wash.

Well, I've definitely ruled out any of the touch washes that use those long hanging strips of 3M Scotchbrite pads!

You should only worry if the steam generation were permanent.

+1 these are the only kind of car washes I go to. The steam thing is normal, I get it all the time at touchless car washes.

Just curious. With the touchless car wash, is the soap they use strong enough to strip off the wax?

I have yet gone to one during the winter because of the fact that I was worried that all my hard work waxing the car would be gone because of the strong soap they use.

When it's cold outside and when you breathe out the tiny water vapors condenses as they hit the cold air and you see steam.

So I think it's water which is warmer (and the engine part is warmer) than the colder outside air which produces this condensation. I may be wrong!

I don't think the soap they use will strip the wax. I've been using touchless washes for years and the water still continues to bead up afterwards (I generally wax my car 2-3 times a year).

+1
Plus the car wash will also apply a little bit of wax in the washing process. Last year I ran it through ~ once a week and the water was still beading come the spring.
