Noob question about warranty

Hey guys, I was under the impression that any Exterior mod will not void your warranty. I thought that cosmetic mods are much safer in that they don't attribute to warranty coverage over engine issues. To put it another way, any mod can only void warranty coverage for parts associated with that mod. Are my assumptions correct? Sorry I am just paranoid

the only way a mod can void your warranty is if the dealer can prove that the part failed because of the mod. For example: If you were to install your own tail lights and messed up the wiring, which in turn caused an electrical fire, the dealer would not cover the damage under warranty.
