New front/rear brake discs for 335i? Need help! - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I want to change my brake discs for something more "race" looking drilled & slotted discs.

What are the best discs available for 335i? and should I also change OEM brake pads for better ones?

btw. when I change the brake discs and pads to something non-oem will that make my brakes sound worse or will the sound be same?

+1000 i had those front and back and were good. you also get the inside of the rotor in black which looks nice compaired to the rusty oem ones.

I like the dba 5000 two-piece rotor, slotted. Drilled may look cool, but if freude am fahren is your motto, stick to slotted.

I went with EBC brake discs (Turbo Groove, dimpled + slotted) along with Cool Carbon pads and Goodridge steel lines. I'm quite happy with it, more details in the link in my sig.

Slotted rotors will be nosier than plane or just drilled. If non-oem pads are installed correctly, there's no squeal or additional noise.

So can you hear the braking noise inside the car now when you are using stoptech rotors w/ CC pads?

I want to change my rotors but I dont want to raise the braking noise when comparing to oem so should I first change the oem rotors to Stoptech drilled rotos?

If you find the stoptechs a bit too pricey. We carry the Frenetik premium line of replacement rotors which offer a your custom choice of cross drilling/slotted/dimpled and color finishes as well.

I know the question wasn't addressed to me, but I think I can give you an answer nevertheless: As written above, slotted rotors will always be noisier than the OEM ones as the latter have a level surface. If you're not going fast, you can hear an increased braking noise as the pads build up friction against the rotor. It's not annoying or loud or anything, just noticeable. If you don't want any noise at all, stay stock.

BTW and just to avoid confusion, I'm not talking about any squealing or something similar. When the CC pads are installed correctly, there shouldn't be any such squealing at all. I have them on for some thousands of km now, and even in extreme cold (-15 degrees Celsius) there was no squeal.

The slots are more abrasive against the pads - helps keep the pad material fresh - but does contribute more brake noise. Honestly, you'll notice the difference when you make the change, but after a few thousand miles you won't notice it any more, but you'll not want to live with the way the brakes were before. Before the brakes are initally grabby, then not much until you lean on them. After the change, the brakes are beautifully linear, and seem to go on for ever with not that much effort. The factory brake feel is disappointing to me, and I upgraded the rotors and pads on both my E46 (Zimmerman drilled/Pagid street) and E90, and both times had excellent feel and braking.

Increased noise is a function of the slotted rotors, not the pads. If you want Quiet, than plain or just drilled rotors with Cool Carbon pads is the way to go.

I know this is an old thread, but still pertinent. Is anyone still using the Stoptech rotors? How have they held up? Are they made in China like a lot of the aftermarket rotors? Any problems with warpage?
