I know... not my taste either, but I came accross this local who squeezed a 'vette engine into his matte-black E36. You should hear that thing growl... pretty funny!

LS1's don't belong in BMW's. At LEAST throw an LS2 in there.

wouldn't that engine totally throw off the 50/50 balance? probably plows through the corners now

Recently while at Lime Rock (CT), I saw a Porsche 944 with a V8 squeezed under the hood. Even though it seems totally wrong to put an engine like that in a car originally equipped with an inline-4, the sound and the power were AMAZING!

There were a lot of PCA members at the track that day, and with the exception of the Carrera GT, it was one of the best sounding cars of the day.

Not a bad concept if you think about it...Raw AMERICAN horsepower with German Refinement...all it needs now is Japanese reliability...

There's a few of those running around town, one is the owner of Tunerworks, another has a 4door with full Reiger WB. Both cars are hella fast! But IMO, I think they should have stayed with German Engineering...

Crazy.... Good job fitting that V8 into the car.

Personally I prefer the E90 with a S85 V10 engine though..

Wow these are popping up everywhere. I have seen videos of the E36's with the LS1! Great sound... Apparently the Aluminum LS1 is not heavier than the stock motor so weight balance is not a problem....

hmmmmmmmmm, not a bad idea (considering it's a E36), if it's an E90 though, i would disagree a little...

i'm with shady90 except for the Japanese part

there's a guy here who put a 1J engine (old supra engine with turbo) on E36, i think that's ridicoulas, but he says all i wanted was power

anyway he sold that car for $1000

I uploaded a short video clip... if you listen at the very end (turn up your speakers for this one) you can hear the unmistakeable V8 sound.
