Late September I heard dealers will be receiving their vanos bolts... Some kind of delay I guess

I'm in SoCal though

I wanted to know too, BMW of Mountain View says my car is under recall, but then no words on availability. How did you check online to see whether the part is available?

I have experienced limp mode (reduced power) related to this vanos recall four or five times (I read the codes after each time). It's been temporary where I'll turn off the car and turn it back on and the limp mode is gone. The last time, I brought the car into BMW of Mountain View and they said that neither the parts (vanos bolts) nor the repair tooling/protocol are available from BMW HQ to them yet. And they didn't know when it would happen but acknowledged that since it is a safety recall (feds are tracking it) and it has been dragging on, there is high pressure to push the repair out to the service centers. I've been seeing on the forums people are being told as late as October for when the repair will start pushing out, but the tech implied that if it goes much later than that, it's going to be a problem for BMW.

The tech told me that the temporary limp mode that I have seen won't damage the car so I'm continuing to drive it as it is since it is only an occasional nuisance. If the car gets a CEL to shut down the car, then clearly it would be bad to try to drive it but haven't seen that.

I received the letter from BMW about the recall but like you guys, still waiting for a GREEN light for them to bring it to the dealership for repair. Yeah, same thing when I asked my SA at Concord BMW, no parts yet.

Thanks for this.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not but "There are no open recalls for your vehicle."

No problem and the message sounds like you don't have a recall. Lucky

I'm in Montreal Canada and when i was at my local BMW dealership last month getting some extended guarantee work done, they work working on Vanos Recall cars.

Apparently it's lined up out the door, they do like 5+ a day or something.

Called dealership and they are obviously aware but still awaiting parts. This was here locally at a Denver dealership.

Safety Recalls

There is 1 open safety recall for your vehicle.
Your VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Year: 2011
Make and Model: BMW 335I XDRIVE US
April 9, 2014 | Recall Campaign No. 14V-176
VANOS HOUSING BOLTS
Status:

Last Updated: August 12, 2014
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM
On certain model year 2010 and 2011 128i coupe, 128i convertible, 328i sedan, 328i xDrive sedan, 328i coupe, 328i convertible, 328i Sports Wagon and Z4 sDrive 30i models, model year 2011 and 2012 135i coupe, 135i convertible, 335i sedan, X5 xDrive 35i Sports Activity Vehicles and X6 xDrive 35i Sports Activity Coupes, model year 2011 335i xDrive sedan, 335i coupe, 335i convertible, 528i sedan, 535i sedan, 535i xDrive sedan, X3 xDrive 28i and 35i Sports Activity Vehicles, model year 2010 X3 xDrive 30i and X5 xDrive 30i Sports Activity Vehicles , model year 2012 640i coupe and convertible and model year 2010 through 2012 535i Gran Turismo models, the bolts that secure the housing for the variable camshaft timing adjustment (VANOS) unit can loosen over time and may possibly break.
SAFETY RISK
If the bolts loosen or break, the engine may have reduced power or stall. Stalling increases the risk of a crash.

Your BMW center will replace the four VANOS housing bolts for each of the two VANOS units (intake and exhaust). In addition, owners of approximately 170,172 model year 2010-2012 BMW models equipped with inline 6 cylinder engines not covered by this recall will receive an extended warranty to address this condition.

I just took my car in for rear brake service today and the service advisor said that they will perform the vanos recall as well. This is Irvine BMW.
