BMW Coding Cable Anyone? Need Help 20$

Hi Guys,

So my car started getting the Half Engine Light and I am not sure whether it is an HPFP issue or something else.

I read that you can read whatever codes your car is throwing if you have one of these scan tools. I would much rather have it scanned than going to the stealership and having to pay $350 for their "diagnostic" fee.

If anyone in the Highland Park/DTLA area has a scan tool and would like to earn a cool $20 bucks, please PM me for info. Another plus, if you can code me to open/close car windows with the keyfob and get rid of the yellow corner lights when the low beams are on.. I can give you more for that too =D, Also (longshot).. some BMW Coolant, another +$

To be more specific I am located on Boyle St and 7th. (Work address, hopefully someone is available during 11am-7pm times). Outside of these times, I am in Koreatown and can also meet up there.

Thanks!

Steve

Any Autozone will read the code for you for free.

If you have a good relationship with any shop they should read it for you for free as well.

Autozone and the like stores stopped reading codes a few years ago. Something about some California mandate /law that was passed. Just look out for those offer cards in the mail or pennysaver where the independent shops offer free diagnostic check engine light check ups.

My bud does coding of all kinds on all BMW's. He charges cheap and can also read/ check any codes for you. If interested you will need to go to him in Norwalk. PM for his info.

I called them a couple weeks ago for my dads "check engine" light on his MB. They said they can no longer provide error reading services, and haven't for a couple years due to, like what someone else said, a law that was passed.

OP, i bought a cheap bluetooth obdii reader from amazon for like $10. Use the free torque app with any android phone and you can read and clear some codes. Torque also gives live data too.

If you were in west covina area I would have loved to help you out, otherwise try calling Offset Motorwerks. They scan and code cars for a good price.

Yes, Autozone stopped doing free code reading so you would instead have to take your car to the dealer and pay them some ridiculous amount for the 2 minutes it takes to read the code. You might be able to rent a code reader from Autozone or Oreillys. You can buy them for pretty cheap, $20-$40.

Or like mentioned, get the ELM327 bluetooth adapter and the Torque app. It will read/erase codes and a whole lot more. Works on all cars too.

If you want to read the BMW specific codes I think you need more advanced software like INPA.
