Had a run with a 2010 S4

Guys,
So I was coming out of Laguna Canyon Dr. and I was at the light turning left into 133 with a 2010 S4 on my left (roads were a tad wet, not raining though). Light turned green we took the turn, me taking it slower easing into 2nd due to getting sideway a bit.
Anyways, we hit it from around 30mph with him already being 2 cars ahead and we went up to top of 3rd gear and I kept the distance but didn't gain ground on him... Does that sound right (assuming he was stock) with my power levels? I thought I'd pull him a bit at least.
dyno numbers are in the sig.

With you being tune only (GIAC S1) and him having better traction, that sounds right to me.

Those S4's are underrated, they dyno around 330 to the wheels stock.

Would be interesting to do a pull on dry weather . He has a big advantage with AWD on rain

Aren't the S4's 7ATs... Not sure if that would make a difference in speed, and I think the s/c doesn't really kick in till around high 2k to low 3k rpms... I could be totally wrong though

they both weigh the same.
they both have the same TorSen differential apportioning 60% of torque to the rear wheels under normal conditions.

Yet why is the supposedly 380+hp S4 failing to win the race? In fact the S5 in most tests has outperformed the S4...quarter mile times for the S5 are consistently about 13.2-13.3...and 0-60 times are consistently 4.8 seconds, whereas only the best S4 tests match the S5 numbers. So is the S5 really a 380+hp car too...and has also been 'under-rated'?

And we all know that the S5 is dynoing around 280 to 290.

I recall reading the same thing. I'm not doubting you, Alessandro, I'm just saying that I recall reading the same thing (I think it was in either Motor Trend or Road & Track).

Wow, if that dyno is correct 360 WHP assuming close to 440HP crank, forget the BMW V8 TT 400HP. How much HP this new Audi V6 SC can go with mod? Maybe I need to look at S4 as my next car (was ready to pull trigger on E92 335xi)

BTW, OP you are at disadvantage during the initial turn with RFT on wet road against Quattro with non RFT.

Sounds like he had an awd advantage in the wet plus being already in front you from the beginning. Otherwise no way! I've driven the S4 DSG many times over and it's a slow-ass lethargic even compared to tuneless N54.

That's what I mean... I thought at least I'd pull him to be even with him but no. Maybe he was not stock but those cars are too new to be moded. This is gonna eat me up unless I run another S4 side by side.

You are correct, I got sideways in a turn a bit so had to correct it... that's how he ended up 2 cars ahead of me.

I've Destroyed a bunch of "S" AUDI... including a RS4 50-120 in rain, all except snow!

My first encounter with new S4, on highway walked him so ridiculous, it wasn't even funny. 15 cars...

S5- like same. That guy regretted getting rid of his 335 after that- (he claimed to blow out 3 rear with it)

Can't wait to run a 4.2 R8... I see a bunch around here, all old men though.

ALL are sick cars... not quite the fastest though

JB3, V4, or Dinan Stg. 2... Never worry about an "S" line AUDI again!

Edit: a s5 with exhaust and I had exhaust were even to 100 - then as it was closing in he let go. Just makin a point N54 tuned will take em all out... But I would NEVER EVER mess with a ZO6

What mod do you have that you are "destroying" an RS4?

OMG, I jumpped ship from my Stage 3 Audi S4 Avant 6 Speed with Meth, and that is the reason I loved that car, because it would make you eat your words. It's tough not to back the Audi up, after 9 years of B5 love it's still deep in my soul. The cars you listed are all NA 4.2 engine cars. 2.7T FTW!!

To the OP. Traction may have been an issue, and once you are behind by 2 car's it's nearly impossible to make up in car that are even close to evenly matched. I believe a Stock 2010 S4 on 91 will do ~290 on the dyno you were on. Also, I forget how the S4's are geared if MT. If the car was DSG the shifts alone can keep you behind, that transmission makes up time by itself. Your GIAC dyno, and area under the curve is truely impressive.
