kilometer magazine interviews Adrian van Hooydonk

The felas over at kilometer magazine had a chance to sit down with Adrian van Hooydonk (aka AvH) and have published their interview. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

I think so, yes. But let me say that we didnít aim to be controversial; we aimed to make a change. When we started that change ten years ago - rather when Chris Bangle initiated that change ten years ago - our brand was doing well, but we knew that we were going to expand the model lineup dramatically.
KM- What one car is still on your personal wish list to own?

AvH- An M1, I would say. Or a BMW 3.0SCSL, the batmobile I would say. At the moment I have a 2002, so Iím starting small. Maybe I can work my way up.
Itís not really a challenge, I see that as an opportunity. More interesting materials. In thermoplastics or lets say, other exotic materials like carbon fiber, you can do very sharp lines. So Iím not really worried about that.
Iím sure as everyone knows, weíre going to see different drivetrains; weíre moving toward an era of electric mobility. Not everywhere, and not for everyone; itís probably more for the urban environment, where it makes sense.

Thumbs up

Great find, thanks Mark.

(BTW, the new 5-series is failsville - way too safe and boring... probably the future direction, remove model-to-model differences... is the 1 destined to become a mini-3?)

Seems like a very intelligent individual with a great vision for BMW.

Although skeptical, I remain excited to see what he does for our brand!

Great read. Bravo

Good review. I like his preference towards sharp lines. Makes me glad that he's overseeing the designs.

I think his headlight design cheapen the new 5 and e90 LCI. I prefer the straighter more confident lines

The reviews I read all seemed to quote a ~100lb increase.
