Adaptive Headlight Failed!! HELP

Hi. I've got a 2006 330i CPO (factory warranty expired now.)

While i was driving at about 70mph , i went over the this big pot hole and

adaptive headlight failed sign came right after.

So, i went to BMW and asked what the problem was..

they scanned it for an hour and found i need to replace the passenger side headlight. (headlight's computer module or something was broken, they said)

Everything works fine except for the swivelling headlight function.

They quoted me $1900 for this one headlight replacement.

So, here's my question.

1. Isn't CPO warranty covers this?

2. Are there any way that i can fix this without replacing the whole headlight?

Thanks and please help!!

I would think that if it's a CPO it should still be covered. I would make them pay for it.

if its broken due to damage from the pothole...obviously its not a CPO issue...

how would the dealer know if it was caused by a pothole? just say it stopped working.

Welcome to the club! I have no fix to tell you yet but I'm experiencing the same issue minus the pothole. Matter of fact don't even mention the pothole if your under warranty. I'm out of warranty and my swivel failed in a parking lot if that makes you feel any better.

Unfortunately, these adaptive HL have alot of little fragile moving parts. Although they are fairly strong, a hard impact will jolt the mechanical gear out of place. I am in the same boat...my passenger light appears to be paralized

i agreed...and the thought of forking out $1K for one light just make me even more thankful I still have a bright beam. I learn to get used to seeing the error icon on the intrument display.

My controller under the headlight went bad. Took it out and it was corroded..smh. Checked the drivers side...perfect. dont know how the passenger side got exposed to elements but I bought an uncoded controller and now the headlight moves. The whole care has to be coded again for the adaptive to work right though. so the motor's themselves weren't broken just the electronics underneath

CPO only covers a handful of things, pretty sure CPO doesnt mean its a bumper to bumper warranty. If it CPO does offer bumper to bumper, then you need to go back to the dealer and raise hell.

According to BMW CPO WARRANTY...

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...y/Covered.aspx

Link provided shows what is covered, I would presume "electrical" would be headlights, atleast it can be manipulated as that possibly.

Might want to go back to the dealer and get some answers.

Below is a list of whats NOT COVERED under CPO WARRANTY

Quote:
Upkeep Items
Maintenance; engine, transmission, and body adjustments; wheel alignment, balancing or rotation; wiper blade inserts; engine drive belts; spark plugs; filters; fuses; all batteries; all hoses and clamps (except air conditioning and power steering); oils, lubricants, fluids, refrigerants and coolants (except as required in the course of a covered repair); brake pads and rotors; brake shoes and drums; manual transmission clutch assemblies; suspension dampers (shock absorbers/strut elements); exhaust systems; tires.

Wear and Tear
All wear and tear items as defined in The Certified Pre-Owned BMW Protection Plan Consumer Information Statement (including all suspension parts and components).

Body and Interior
Paint; glass; headlamps; bulbs (except instrumentation); mirrors; lenses; body and chassis; body seals and gaskets; interior and exterior trim, moldings, and fasteners; upholstery, headliner, carpeting, floor and trunk mats; convertible top (all components except electronics); air or water leaks; wind or body noises; wheels; damage due to rust, corrosion, or contamination, except as covered by the BMW New Vehicle Rust and Corrosion Perforation Warranty.

Accessories
Radio/cassette player, telephone, navigation system, CD changer, or any components of those systems; non-original equipment parts, components or accessories.
However, here it says "headlamps" are not covered. This broad terminolgy is where they can get away with things, the headlamps might have "failed" but its an electrical piece that broke? See?

I saw in another post you said you bought an AHL control module. I am having the same problem with my driver side - Adaptive headlight failure. Can you let me know where you got the module? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Warranty covers defects and not damage. Try your insurance company. If you have a cheap deductible you can make a claim. You can also talk to the city that that's responsible for that road, but that usually doesn't go too well.

I had the same problem on the passenger side. They replaced the headlamp and the control unit. It came out to $2200. Fortunately I had the CPO and maintenance warranties until 100k miles, so it only cost me a $50 deductible. I think you messed up when you told them that you hit a pothole. Maybe try another BMW dealership, but this time leave out the pothole story. Tell them the warning light popped up when you cut the car on.

Agreed. Leave the pothole story out. Worked for me.

Check this thread out. You'll have to remove your bumper and take out your headlight.
