Next I then called Julio, at perillo BMW 1 312 981 0000 he just said: "if you notice there no dipstick, in your car, so your not surpposed to change that transfluid. The fluid we have for it comes in 20L containers only. No smaller components are necessary.
you are right about bring your own container although the guy at local dealer initially offered he can find something for me (back then i was going to get the fluids from the dealer and was going to do it at other mechanic shop). they do not have smaller measurement container for it. but i can assure you that if SA ordered and if they indeed used 6 liters of transmission fluids, they will not going to divide the cost by 6/20 to come up with the pricing... there will be part numbers for smaller measurement.

I just called seattle, and bellvew. Seattle hung up, bellvew, where you must have done your service, said that 929 is not a seperate container, but it is indeed transfluid for the GM manufactured transmission fluids in our car.

same to your dealership... eh? i don't know what your approach was but i basically told them "i recently did transmission fluids drain and fill and this is the part number that i got, can you check?"

your dealership is really funny man, they have different fluid for each of the "transmissons" for our car. Just bring your car in, they will look at the color, and tell you which manufacturer, manufactured your car!

i agree, based on what you told me, the guy at bellevue part dept is FAIL...
but the guy that i talked to responded differently... didn't get to ask name on none of the dealer i called so don't know if it's the same guy or not...

I ordered trans fluid from RMEuropean. I ordered the listed part for a 335, which is the Pentosin Equivalent of the Shell M1375.4/83220142516. They first sent me red ATF fluid from Mercedes. I sent that back. Now the latest bottle is PENTOSIN ATF-1, but on the rear of the bottle it says the BMW equivalent is 83229407807, not the 516 fluid. I called them back and complained, and the said it is the fluid that is used in the 335i. However, all the lists I see from BMW lists the 807 fluid for the 4-5 speed transmissions, not the 6 speed 335i steptronic trans. The fluid is already installed and I don't know what to do from this point. Hoping they will send me the correct fluid and I will just keep the car up on the lift until then.

What I can't understand is how they list the different fluids for the different cars, but can't send me the fluid that I ordered for my model, and is billed on my invoice! If you look at the order option on the left for the 807 fluid, you can see they even list it for being for a "green tag" transmission. So I order the fluid on the right, the bill me for it, and put it on my invoice, but they send me the fluid on the left and tell me its the correct fluid. The Pentosin Bottle they sent says its equivalent to the 807 fluid, nothing listed about the 516 fluid. Go Figure.,

This is consistent with what Pentosin said after I emailed them.

Dear Mr. xxxxxxx,

Thank you very much for your email.

Referring to our below stated email we would like to inform you that we also talked internally to our head of the R&D department. Please be informed that our Pentosin ATF 1 is

approved by

a) VIOTH Extended Drain Intervals List of Lubricants H55.6336.3x / DIWA Service Bulletin 013 and 118
b) ZF lubricant class/es TE-ML 11B

Shell M-1375.4 which happens to be a ZF Lifeguard 6 ATF for ZF\'s 6 spd transmission applications. Our Pentosin ATF 1 meets the requirements and is suitable for 5 HP.

Please be informed that there is no written confirmation for 6 HP, thus we cannot confirm it.

We trust we could help you. In case of any further support, feel free to contact us at any time. Best regards from Hamburg.

mit freundlichen Grüßen / kind regards
Ole Sommer
So basically even though RMEuropean says its an approved substitute for the BMW OEM fluid (Shell M-1375.4/Lifeguardfluid6), Pentosin actually says otherwise. I also have to believe based off emails I received from ZF, that no other fluid (Castrol, Red Line) can be considered as a direct equivalent, even though they might say as such on their website.

Is this the best price we can get for ZF LifeGuardFluid6? I know that several other brands beside BMW use this ATF, including Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Hyundai. Anyone tried the other dealerships to get a good price? I'll be damned if I have to pay $40 per liter.

unfortunately that is about the cheapest it will go. i've seen a member on hyundai forum said he contacted his dealer and quoted like $75 per liter. landrover dealer is about $70 per liter also. i contacted bmw dealers locally they quoted about $45 per liter somehow. i talked to a manager at my dealer and he told me he will do wholesale price on the parts if i let them do the transmission service at the dealer and they gave me $18 per 1/2 liter which comes out to be about $36 per liter. they used 6 liters.

Shell M-1375.4 is just the base stock, and I would suspect LG6 has different modifiers/additives. LG6 is thinner than Pentosin ATF1.

I've been using pentosin ATF1 in my 335I with no problems. If you want to use it, then, thats fine. If not, then go and buy whatever you want at whatever price.

I too have been in contact with pentosin, via phone, and they recently recieved a call from ZF stating that they should say that their fluid is only approved for 3-5hp transmissions. They told me that their fluid should indeed be fine for the 6hp, but that they cannot make an official statement, because of ZF.

Shell M-1375.4 is just a base stock? ZF's last e-mail to me went as follows:

Dear Sir,

please contact Shell for any information you may need about the ATF fluid. We do not manufacture the fluid, therefore we cannot make any comments about its specfications, nor can we confirm/deny fluid compatability, with the substitutes you mentioned.

Baster since it's well known that reading comprehension is not your strong suit I also said that I suspect it has different additives/modifiers making it LG6. It's not rocket science.. LG6 for in warranty and use whatever you want when out of warranty.

No run along and go play with your Xbox or something.

Grammar isn't your strong suit either sir, but at least this is the first level headed response from you so far. YES LG6 is for use during the warranty. After the warrant is over, there are several fuids that should be just fine in this trans, including: Redline, Amzoil, castrol, pentosin, etc.

I spoke with a technical rep from Pentosin New Jersey this morning. She said ATF-1 is perfectly compatible with the 335i Steptronic 6 speed transmission. As replacement fluid, or top off fluid. Tested in their labs.

You are right.. That's the cheapest I can find anywhere. In Canada, our dealers can't sell us 1/2 liters, so I must order from that website. Assuming that the drain amount is ~6L, it's going to cost at least $237.18 + $16.80 shipping just for a drain and fill.
