Newbie question...

This might sound very stupid, but where do I find the oil dipstick on a 330i ???? I looked under the hood, read in the manual (where it says where to find it on diesel engines but not on petrol engines). The reason I ask is that today I got a "oil level low" message...It said that I need to put 1l of oil in it. After a few hours, I started the engine, and went to the service menu and it indicated that the oil level is fine. Now, was that a SW glitch and if so, imagine I would have put 1l more oil in it . That's why I always prefer to check the dipstick, but I can't find it.
Any help appreciated.

There isnt a dipstick. As far as I know, the only way to check oil level is through the onboard computer and/or iDrive.

If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

no oil dipstick...just onboard computer.....

but it takes 5-8 minutes of driving before you can check the level of your oil

You're all right.

But why o why did they have to get rid of the old fashioned dipstick?

...as a first step in getting rid of oil changing, or oil at all?

Why would you want to boother with a dipstick when your car can do it for you and give you a nice little reminder when to add oil?

dipstick is totally unnecessary when the car can tell you. Keep in mind though that the car tells you if it's low by one quart. When it tells you're low, don't go adding 4 quarts!

There's no dipstick to make it more difficult to keep track of how much oil your car is burning.

Technology is great but sometimes you just want to go to your garage and check the dipstick and not have to wait until the car or engine is warmed up before you can get a reading.

Just a little side question...I went 11,000 miles for a year with my car, and the oil gauge never moved from just a hair below max the entire time. What's the deal? I got my yearly oil change courtesy of the dealer anyway
