What is Your Opinion on Dinan?

I don't have any experience with Dinan parts so I wanted to hear from people who have, have used, or know about Dinan to share their knowledge. The only thing I knew about them before this thread (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33691 starting with post 12) was that they were name brand and affiliated with BMW in some way.

So what's the good, bad, or ugly?

great products... they do tend to take a while to release things though but that is just because they do so much testing so its allright I guess. lol

Great products with prices to match.

Dinan provides a practical but pricey way to mod your bimmer. It all depends what you are looking for.

All of the above. You get what you pay for. Reputable products but certainly not a discount leader in pricing. One significant benefit is that Dinan has an agreement w/BMW - The performance mods purchased and installed from Dinan do NOT void any factory warrantees. I'm guessing this adds to their longer timetable for product releases.

If you've got the dollars, you can't go wrong with Dinan.

So the below quote is not the general consensus?

I don't mean to use your quote maq, but I want to understand more about the quality of Dinan's products and satisfaction by customers.

I won't call it a general consensus but it is a common one. For the most part, Dinan makes good products that have a fair amount of time put into their development.

But like any other "performance" parts company, some products are better than others in terms of getting out the amount of performance that's equivalent of the cash you put into it. Because Dinan charges a premium for their products, that becomes harder to do and causes the type of statements like the one you quoted.

They make very high quality products, ive had dinan parts in other bmw vehicles and ive never had a problem with them. Good stuff, but of course the price reflects on that

Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding with Dinan (I owned an '01 330i with some minor Dinan parts) is that they *match* BMW's warranty, not that you are still covered by the factory.

In any case, I like their stuff, and you are still under warranty -- no matter who it is provided by.

Dinan is like Snap-On tools.

They're REALLY GOOD, but they're not (to me!) worth their retail price. They charge a lot for the name, and the warranty, for middle of the line gains. They're gains are not particularly better than anyone elses, but at least they back em up.

i took a tour of their facility during their 25 year annivesary event. the tour was given by steve dinan himself. i was really impressed. they do a lot of r&d, so that's why it takes some time for new parts to be introduced and part of the reason for their price.

they are kinda conservitive from what I hear, that's why bmw insures their stuff (other than the quality).

my opinion is that I need to stay away from their website so I don't get the urge to buy stuff (gotta save for a P car, rather than mod my Z4)

Like you guys said, Dinan is a good company just expensive. I order stuff from them every now and then and I never had a problem dealing with them if you're worried about customer service. The things I don't like about them are -- dealer pricing isn't the greatest, a lot of their products don't look really well built/manufactured (coming from japanese aftermarket experience), minimal if not any gains (coming from various customers) and i'm still waiting on a 'Dinan' emblem for one of my co-workers that has been on order for several months. If anything, their more expensive products/packages are worth getting if you have the money. We've done an M roadster with the supercharger and an E39 M5 with the S2 package. The E39 M5 S2 is probably the nicest sounding car i've heard too. The cars have come back to us for regular service with no real major problems and it's been about 4-5 years. Sorry so long, but if you want to upgrade and keep warranty, get Dinan stuff. If not, there are a lot of other companies with products just as good or even better.
