335D

I ended up getting a 335i. I, like many others, had the impression Diesels were noisy and smelly so when I ordered my 335i, I never even considered buying one until I started reading these posts. Now I regret not considering a diesel.

I purchased my car through BMW San Francisco. I shopped around all the dealerships via the Web and they had the best pricing and willingness to negotiate over any other Bay Area dealers. With the Winter special, I was able to get mine for a few thousand less than MSRP out the door including all fees and taxes. I'm happy.

I liked the folks at SF BMW, but they were initially unwilling to discount an order for a d at all. They later said they might knock $500 or $1000 off MSRP, but by that point they didn't have any allocation left and couldn't promise when I'd get the car. They were straight with me, which is more than I can say for most of the bay area dealers. Hard to blame them for wanting MSRP when they've apparently got more people willing to pay MSRP than they have cars to sell.

More bad news: looks like the GL is now not expecting to arrive at the panama canal until the 15th at 0200 and is currently slated (though not yet confirmed) to be the last ship through on the 15th. I bet it'll slip to the 16th before long. http://www.boydsteamship.com/booking.php

Not good.

What was the original scheduled date for the GL to the Panama Canal?

Thanks,

Chuck

As of when it entered the Atlantic, it was supposed to get there and start through the canal on the 13th. As of yesterday, the canal part had been bumped to the 14th. Now, it's supposed to get there on the 15th and tentatively has the last spot through the canal on the 15th (which I bet will change to the 16th).

It would be helpful if GL left the Brunswick Port, they have been there almost 24 hours.

Goliath

I guess I'll stick with the original March 16th date the dealer quoted me and not get my hopes up. I bet the storms are causing the delay.

Ok, I got a weird email from the CA at my dealer today. He is telling my car will be ready for pick up the week of Feb 22nd, though they have not received it yet. I am thinking of one of the following scenarios:

1. CA is mistaken and quoting the Port/VPC delivery date, most likely.

2. Car was NOT on the Goliath Leader, which I doubt.

3. Car was on Goliath Leader but will be process at Brunswick VPC and then trucked to Denver area, which I highly doubt.

We should know more next week, so he says. In a state of confusion...

Cheers,

Chuck

March 16th seems like a long time, since the car is scheduled to hit the Hueneme VPC around Feb 21/22. I was told two weeks from delivery at port and I am in the Denver, Colorado area.

Cheers,

Chuck

GL has moved upto arriving at the canal on the 14th at 2300 and transiting on the 15th in slot #10 so it has moved up in the list. Hopefully it will go through on the 15th. It is a public holiday that week in Panama so the daily traffic information will not be updated until the 16th.

Good news. I wonder what route they take from brunswick to the canal? I can't seem to find the GL anywhere.

GL arrival slipped at Port Hueneme also. Now it is due on the 22nd. It also moved up to #8 for the Canal so it looks like it transit through on the 15th.

I am also waiting for a car on the Goliath Leader. It is not a 3 series, though. It is a Gran Turismo. I hope you will let me continue to follow the ship's progress here.

(You may remember me as the lawyer for Ken Tanisaka, the fellow who got a deal on an M3 that was too good to be true. But we made it so.)
