'06 Stock Tires and "feathering"

I don't know much about tires, but I just brought my '06 325xi into my dealership because most of the time I would come to a stop, I heard a grinding/screeching noise. It was pretty damn loud and quite embarrassing driving around in a nice car making such a terrible noise.

My dealership said the car was making that noise because my tires were "feathering." I'm assuming feathering is uneven wear on the tires or so that's what the rep told me.

Can anyone help me out on this? My dealership won't do anything about the noise and I sure as hell don't want to drop $1k on tires since mine have about 10k miles on them.

Furthermore, does anyone remember the Chandran v. BMWoNA class action Law Suit? I just got a letter in the mail from the firm and I have the option to submit a claim by November 8, 2010. Will BMW replace my tires due to this or do you think I should go straight to the dealership and see what they can do?

That's what I'm thinking too. I'll be taking my car to a mechanic just to confirm that there is nothing wrong with my brakes.

I'll have pics of my tires tomorrow. As for brand they are Bridgestone Turanza EL42.

Yeah, I just noticed that thread. I actually got my letter in the mail today as well. I'll definitely talk to them about replacing the tires, but I won't go with bridgestone. I'll pay whatever the difference is to get some other brand. I'm thinking Continental right now as some people are saying that those RFTs are good.
