Will other MP3 Players, other than ipod, work??

Waiting on the arrival of my 335. But I am curious to know if the ipod hookup will work with other mp3 players as well? Anybody know? I am considering the Toshiba Gigabeat.

Would appreciate your feedback.

The only way to use a non-ipod MP3 player (or any audio device) is by using the AUX INPUT. The MOST bus interface is specific to ONLY certain generations of iPod devices. The two systems (AUX and Ipod MOST Interface) can co-exist so that is not a problem.

Absolutely, other MP3 devices will work through the aux-in. For the interface kit that is solely for ipods.

No they won't. The MOST Ipod interface uses an Ipod-specific connector to get the track info and send commands.

All MP3 players can be used with the aux connector, of course.

Yes, get an iPod - if you buy the MOST integration kit and have iDrive, it's very slick. It's expensive overall (the iPod is the chepest part by far) but the usability is excellent and the upload of the song tracks to the iDrive system is reasonably fast. One tip, if you have lots of tracks rather than complete albums, arrange your iPod playlists so they don't contain more than 200 songs. In album or artist views, you can zip through the choices quickly (unless you have 5000 songs by 5000 artists), but the playlists can be a pain if there are too many songs in each because, unlike the iPod's own circular controller, the iDrive knob doesn't accelerate the scanning as you parse through the lists. Maybe in a future software upgrade.

The Gen 5 iPod with video will not display album art or videos or games on the iDrive so its a purely artist/album/track/time display. It will play the music associated with videos.
