I-Drive Screen Question

I know that you can adjust the brightness on the I-Drive screen from a menu but just lately I have noticed that the screen seems to adjust itself.
Is this dependant on the light level within the car?
Has anyone else noticed this or am I completely wrong?
Here in England we have just adjusted the clocks for the winter and I have notice this now when going to work in the semi dark.

I think it dims when your headlights are on. If your headlights come on automatically, it might fool you into believing the screen is adjusting brightness on its own.

Although you can adjust the base setting with the lights on it does adjust itself to ambient light level. For testing of this take a flashlight and shine into the little pinhole and watch it brighten pretty quickly. Then remove light and it will more slowly dim. It has a latency so it does not quickly change according to a quickly changing light level to prevent flickering. You can adjust the "offset" brightness to your dash level. The same can be done to the HUD on models so equipped. All and all the BMW system is very good and I find I can set this up once and it works day, night, dawn, dusk as well as any I've owned.
