Can't speak for the rest of Europe when It comes to construction, but In Belgium new building code Is followed to the letter as It Is In the U.K.

Having dealt with European & British law Weekly/Monthly over a period of a few year's ,that It Is blatantly obvious that the Judicial system In Britain Is out of date & urgently needs dragging into the 21st Century..
My original statement, that the UK implements EU law more thoroughly than other European countries was actually based on my experiences of Belgium.

I can assure you that the standards of health and safety for building construction and design in Belgium is significantly lower than in the UK. Despite the fact that our laws on safety are supposed to be aligned under EU directives.

I can also categorically confirm that new buildings in Belgium are routinely constructed without any consideration for disabled access. Again, despite common EU directives to the contrary.

I have been there and seen these things for myself.

And ... I actually rather like Belgium. Especially the housing and community aspects. Too many speed cameras though.

You are entitled to your opinions on English Law, no matter how wrong they may be, but the good news is that we aren't going to re-write it to suit the EU. We can't because it's built on 1000 years of legal precedent, which happily makes it difficult for any politician to seriously screw it up.

It's also one of the reasons why, contrary to popular misconception, the UK actually allows a level of personal freedom which rivals any country in the world. To me that freedom defines Britishness.
