I installed a Quaife in my non-tuned but fully modded 135 6-8 weeks ago. Amazingly I still have not had traction control kick in yet. I did add new tires (Toyo T1R's) and my prior tires were pretty worn. Previously I regularly lost all traction regularly. Maybe I'm subconsciously driving more cautiously to save my new tires but it's starting to get funny. A few times and especially on wet roads today I purposely tried to spin, I'm sure I spun but not enough to kick in traction control.

I'm not saying that I cant spin tires with my LSD but I am impressed. An LSD is definitely a great mod for our cars, expensive but worth it!

I went Quaife too. Their reputation is just so good in so many applications from daily driving, hardcore road racing, ralley racing, drag racing, etc. It is tough to risk things when you have such a well respected product on the market. On top of all that, Quaife retains the scrolled output shaft and we have seen seizures on BMW diffs without scrolled output shafts.

I know we don't do any off-roading in a 3 series, but the point is the same; light brakes = more traction in an open diff situation. Just a little tap. That said, I haven't decided which one I want for my 335.
I waited over two years before I pulled the trigger on my Quaife. There are a lot of comparable LSDs out there for our vehicles. When I finally got my Quaife, I waited almost a year before I found the perfect place to install my diff. That's three years without enjoying the qualities of a diff-mounted BMW that is not an M3.

My question is, how many people who probably won't track their cars ever lift their rear wheel in normal driving....or even spirited driving....unless they are running from the police or taking that ramp or roundabout/sweeper too fast...LOL

Check out the following for reference:

http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/whats-diff/

Unfortunately, not all diffs are available for BMW. Ultimate choice is yours. Bottom line: any diff is better than no diff, at all. G/L on your final choice.

While Wavetrac does not yet sell a "kit" for 07+ cars, there are shops that can prebuild modified diffs with existing Wavetrac kits for you (i.e. new core). You get credit back for the core once they get your old one off your car.
An update on this, the shop that claimed they could get Wavetrac to work on my 07+ e92 backtracked their claim after actually trying to install one. I'm now a happy Quaife customer

99% of us wont be able to tell Wavetrac from Quaife either on the street or the track.

However, one thing is proven is that the Quaife is very very reliable and it is super quiet in operation with low or no service required.

Wavetrac on the other hand is very new, so its reliability is unknown(we are currently putting it to the test). I have also heard of some noise issues with the Wavetrac, nothing to do with the install, but suspecting it is something internally.

Wavetrac still spins the inside tire when fully unloaded, but maybe do it to a little lesser degree. Again, 99% of us wont' know the difference even if you have driven on both.

Got a Quaife installed last week Performs very well so far.

Only downside is a very slight whine that appears on partial throttle at highway speeds (around 100mph). Not sure if it's something I should be worried about?

Could be a set-up issue. Was the gear pattern checked?

Yes, that's the name of the shop. They're located in Philadelphia, PA.

An 8-9hour drive from Toronto is not that bad, spend a few days in the area, call it a short vacation and drive back with an LSD!

I can't wait to test it on the track. I dropped off the car at VAC a few days after my last track event (HPDE), going back to the same track next month, this time with LSD. Let's see what happens this time around when the outside wheel gets some power in the turns!

Realistically, you shouldn't be able to see a difference between Wavetrac and Quaife at the track. You're not lifting a rear wheel off at the track (only fronts) and frankly if you do find yourself in that situation you've got some other bigger problems to deal with. I can see Wavetrac making a difference though on an icy road where you completely lose traction on 1 wheel and you need some (some, not all) traction on the other wheel to get going.

LOL... Plus a nice LSD break-in distance on the way back...
