Thumbs down Plastic covers breaking off electric seat rails...

Has anyone noticed the plastic covers at the ends of the rails for the electric seats? In the past 3 months, I've found some bits of plastic lying around the car, and was puzzled. Today, I finally noticed that some rails were covered by plastic while others weren't. It seems that these plastic covers broke or fell off in my E90. Has this happened to anyone else? Seems like shoddy craftmanship. I was a bit disappointed with BMW.

Notice one of them missing (front left driver rail end cap), and had the dealer replace under warranty.

I've lost a couple of them from the non-electric version. Haven't done anything to date about it but throw them away when found on the floor.

Yes, happened to me too --only one on the driver's side. Probably popped off when I pushed the seat too far back? They don't appear to serve any purpose anyway, so I'm not really bothered by it.

I think they are a "safety" device. I have been known to bleed all over the carpet after brushing a rail in other vehicles. The inside edge where the seat moves is/can become razor sharp.

I found mine on the mat the day after I picked up my baby.
They seem to be as much use as a chocolate tea pot!

I just took mine to SF BMW, and they said that it wasn't covered under any warranty. Their going to get back to me on the part price. Man , can you believe that! I'll try another BMW dealer. They told me the reason was because it probably broke off when i put in an aftermarket carpet mat. . Lame excuse.

Are they f***ing serious? Tell the SF dudes to chill out. The part probably costs 20 cents and if I were you, I'd get myself into a showroom car and show them how easy it is to take of, demonstrating that you do not need to have aftermarket carpets to do it. Bunch of chumps.

Ill just give them a poor rating when I get a follow-up call from BMW. 2 thumbs down. .
I'd hate to say this, but if I were driving a Lexus, they would handle it differently. Not that ilexus can come close to a "3" in performace

It's still the Ultimate Driving Machine.

yeah , you're probably right, but that's still no excuse to blame the customer for the breakage. That means it's in their best interest to cover their butt. oh well, can't win em all.

glued

Mine broke off one by one until one day I decided to glue them back together and reinstall them, they are a pain to put back one but it's been 2 months and no more breaks... then again I might be more careful when cleaning and vacuuming.

Mine on the passenger side were knocked out by my daughter in no time flat. It was hard to take in the early days of having the car, but I can see that there is no way these flimsy things are going to stay there over any real length of time. Oh well.

Any of you have pictures of the seats with the plastic knocked off? i'd like to see how it looks, to judge whether or not this is an eye sore.

They should really make these out of rubber or something. It's going to keep breaking as they are very out in the open.

Yes mine had (past tense) been falling off. I know it's a kluge but I simply added a piece of black electrical tape to hold them on. No problems since and you can't see the tape as it's a perfect match.
